Hang the Moon: A Novel Kindle Edition
In a delightful follow-up to Written in the Stars, Alexandria Bellefleur delivers another queer rom-com about a hopeless romantic who vows to show his childhood crush that romance isn’t dead by recreating iconic dates from his favorite films...
Brendon Lowell loves love. It’s why he created a dating app to help people find their one true pairing and why he’s convinced “the one” is out there, even if he hasn’t met them yet. Or...has he? When his sister's best friend turns up in Seattle unexpectedly, Brendon jumps at the chance to hang out with her. He’s crushed on Annie since they were kids, and the stars have finally aligned, putting them in the same city at the same time.
Annie booked a spur-of-the-moment trip to Seattle to spend time with friends before moving across the globe. She’s not looking for love, especially with her best friend’s brother. Annie remembers Brendon as a sweet, dorky kid. Except, the 6-foot-4 man who shows up at her door is a certified Hot Nerd and Annie...wants him? Oh yes.
Getting involved would be a terrible idea—her stay is temporary and he wants forever—but when Brendon learns Annie has given up on dating, he’s determined to prove that romance is real. Taking cues from his favorite rom-coms, Brendon plans to woo her with elaborate dates straight out of Nora Ephron’s playbook. The clock is ticking on Annie’s time in Seattle, and Brendon’s starting to realize romance isn’t just flowers and chocolate. But maybe real love doesn’t need to be as perfect as the movies... as long as you think your partner hung the moon.

•A cute rom-com story that had me smiling from start to finish.
•Brendon, who is a complete romantic sets out to prove to Annie, who has sworn off relationships that romance isn’t dead and happily forevers do exist.
•I absolutely loved this book so much, it had so many amazing tropes including childhood crush, friends to lovers, the one bed, and cheesy romantic moments.
•Dual POVs of Annie and Brendon.
•Enjoyed all the 90s romance movie references, especially When Harry Met Sally.
•Liked how we got more of Darcy and Elle’s story, which if you haven’t read their book I also highly recommend!
•The pacing in the beginning of the book was somewhat slow but definitely moved along towards the middle.
•I feel like this book was also just a love letter to Seattle and as the reader I loved getting to explore and fall in love with the city like Annie did.
•Annie and Brendon’s chemistry was incredible, their banter was hilarious and they were so adorable. Just absolutely loved their development.
•There is some spice, wasn’t a lot but it still was really good and Brendon was just a consent king!
•Honestly, Brendon’s character is the reason why I fell in love with this book so much. He was adorable, funny, believes in love, watches romance movies, loves Disneyland and even has an UP tattoo. He even gave Annie the space and the time she needed to sort out her feelings and choices. Like where can I find a guy like him!
•Annie was also such a relatable character especially regarding her insecurities about relationships and caring more than the other person. Definitely connected with her so much.
•One of my favorite parts of this book is the discussions regarding public love declarations and what comes after those happily ever afters we see on screen or read about.
•The epilogue was perfect and I was just crying with happiness.
•Overall, just an adorable romance story that will leave you believing in love.
If I loved Darcy in book 1 for her grumpy, almost untouchable complexity, her BFF Annie in this one had so many painfully relatable moments that I had to put down the book and close my eyes every once in a while. Going through certain growing pains weirdly specific to adulting in this generation (or maybe it’s universal), I may not be alone in finding Annie relatable, but I was certainly shook by it. Brendon on the other hand, I wasn’t sure about him or if he was what Annie needed with his idealistic puppy dog ways and the stars in his eyes. Even if I kinda adored the BFF’s little brother possibility in their match. But he’s like the little puppy that creeps up on you, steals your heart while you’re not looking, and then you’re all up in those feels and totally uncertain where they came from. And the filthy switch he, ahem, turns on during intimate moments? Revelation. Even so, I wasn’t sold all the way on their chemistry, but I was wholly invested in their emotional connection.
One of my favorite things about this book again was the soul deep bond between Annie and Darcy, even through doubts and distance. Absolute goals. For a second I felt the conflict at the ending was a little contrived, but then I realized it was actually perfect because Annie behaved the way almost anyone would (or at least me would) in her particular situation. The resolution of course is romance novel perfect, but isn’t that why we read romance?
Written in the Stars was one of my favorite books I've read this year, and I was so excited for the follow up before I even finished it. This book did not disappoint, I absolutely love this book. I wasn't sure if I was going to love Annie just based on the few interactions with Darcy in the first book, but she is actually quite delightful. I knew I would love Brendon, he is so sweet and kind. This book is full of so many troupes I adore. Only one bed ✔, childhood friend's (kind of) to lovers ✔, I love it when the hero is absolutely gone for the heroine, and I love a sugary sweet hero. I'm not always a fan of siblings best friend, but I adored this one. I love the fact that Brendon has been holding onto a crush for Annie for all of these years. We get to see a bit of Darcy, Elle and Margot which was nice as I adore them. The story pulled me in and kept my attention. I adored Brendon and Annie's dates, their playful banter. They had so much tension and attraction. It was very sexy, but also so sweet. As far as chemistry, steam and banter it was through the roof. From the fist kiss to, the steamy times and the grand gesture I was swooning. One of the things I love most about this book is that it was pretty low angst, there was not a huge breakup, their conflict was not a huge misunderstanding, or non communication it was simply Annie needing to make a decision about her life and Brendon being an adult and allowing her to do it. This book made me so happy, Alexandria Bellefleur has become an auto buy author for me and I can not wait to read Margot's story.

It made me laugh, it made me cry, but most of all, it made me believe in love again.
If you are looking for a novel that has some of the classic tropes alongside some of the most relatable characters I've ever read, then you should pick this or Written in the Stars up. Alexandria Bellefleur has a way of making you connect to the characters, of seeing them as imperfect, perfect people instead of words on a page. The way that the images flow through your head and how the individual voices sound in your head is at a level that is hard to reach.
Personally, both novels that I've read by Alexandria Bellefleur have been 5 stars. If I could give her a bonus star simply for the representation subtly displayed in both books, I would. However, her writing is something else, and these characters, these people, shine within the pages.
I'm looking forward to your next book Alexandria, and I hope to read your books for many years to come.
The second entry in the series, this book focuses on the story of Darcy's best friend, Annie, and Darcy's brother, Brendon, who has been interested in Annie since forever. The overall story is sweet, the only problem is Brendon. I was completely annoyed and irked by his lack of understanding or caring for boundaries in the first book, and honestly, he isn't much better in here. It's only the fact that, in Annie, he has found someone who actually finds that endearing. Good for her, but I certainly don't. I spent major parts of the book rolling my eyes at him.
Annie, on the other hand, is lovely, and she balances out Brendons annoying quirks rather well. Her interactions with both Darcy and Elle are lovely, and the whole general theme of the story of reenacting some famous romance movie dates, plus the softened 3rd act drama, worked well enough.
I can't say anything about the spice, because I skipped it.
All in all, if you feel like me and are just reading this for some more time with and background on the characters of the series, I think you should go for it. It was sufficiently entertaining and the extra time with the other characters was worth it. I just wish the book about Brendon had less Brendon in it.. yeah, I'm aware.
Hang the Moon was a very quick read for me. Like Written in the Stars, we are among the same group of friends, and this time we follow the story of Brendon and Annie, his sister’s best friend.
The postulate was very appealing, as it confronts the always romantical Brendon, who loves grand gestures, to the delusional Annie for whom Love is in the daily –not so– little things. However, if the RomCom works, I couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed. First (and it’s totally my fault), after the first book I hoped to have a Whovian character, very geeky. The author decided to enhance his “all mushy” side instead. However, the grand gestures aren’t so big in the end, and the RomCom references less huge than I thought they’d be. Maybe would it have been caricatural?
But, most importantly, I didn’t feel much the characters’ evolution. Yes, they (Annie, mostly) put their fears aside and decide to love. But it wasn’t deep, and nothing comparable to how well pictured were Elle and Darcy in the first book of the series.
So, yes it was a nice, quick and fun read (which is great for a RomCom), but sadly nothing more for me.
Annie has given up on love. She had a series of disappointment while dating and has sworn off trying again. She is unhappy with her job, her life and her lack of social life. Her best friend Darcy lives across the country and she is heading to Seattle to tell her she is moving to London for a new job (one she isn’t even excited for). Darcy however is away with Elle and so Brendan offers to be tour guide to show her around until she returns.
They have an instant attraction but try to keep it to themselves. When Annie tells Brendan that she thinks romance is dead, he takes it upon himself to convince her otherwise by drawing inspiration from various movie rom-coms. What started off as a ploy to show her love is alive turns their attraction into much more. As their feelings grows deeper Annie breaks the news that she is moving to London and can't get involved with him. When Darcy returns, she along with Elle and their friend Margot help Brendan to woo Annie into loving both the city of Seattle and himself in the hopes that Annie might take a chance and stay after all and finally give love a chance. But Annie is scared to take that leap and doesn't trust that Brendan would catch her if she did.
I adored Written in the Stars and loved this just as much. I have developed a connection to these characters and enjoyed returning to their world. Annie was a complex character and I loved her sassy personality and Brendan was loving and joyful. The dynamics and spark they had was hot and beautiful. The path of love never does run smooth but this story tugged at the heartstrings, provided plenty of laughs while developing all the characters in the series. Another perfect rom-com story but one that have substance and heat. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
