A Taste of Gold and Iron: A Breathtaking Enemies-to-Lovers Romantic Fantasy (English Edition) Formato Kindle
A sweeping fantasy romance inspired by the Ottoman Empire, A Taste of Gold and Iron by Alexandra Rowland is perfect for fans of A Marvellous Light and The Goblin Emperor.
‘A delicious tangle of romance, fealty and dangerous politics’ – Tasha Suri, author of The Jasmine Throne
One false coin could topple an empire.
Kadou, the shy prince of Arasht, has no intention of wrestling for imperial control with his sister, the queen. Yet he remains at odds with one of the most powerful ambassadors at court – the father of the queen’s new child. Then a hunting party goes terribly awry, and Kadou finds himself under suspicion of attempted murder.
To prove his loyalty to his sister and salvage his reputation, Kadou takes responsibility for the investigation of a break-in at one of their guilds. He enlists the help of his newly appointed bodyguard, the coldly handsome Evemer, who seems to tolerate him at best. But what appears to be a straightforward crime spirals into a complex counterfeiting operation, with a powerful enemy at its heart.
In Arasht, where princes can touch-taste precious metals with their fingers and myth runs side by side with history, counterfeiting is heresy. The conspiracy they discover could cripple the kingdom’s financial standing – and bring about its ruin.
‘As indulgent and satisfying as your favourite fanfiction’ – Tessa Gratton, author of The Queens of Innis Lear

Loved it.
To be frank, though, it took me a few tries to become friends with this work. For one thing, I must admit that it was hard for me to reconcile the cultural background which the book leans on with its open-minded world of equality (fantasy setting or not - there is a clear imagery borrowed from real-world culture and sorry to say, it's not what I would connect with strong female leaders, gender neutral identities and the acceptance of homosexual relationships).
But once I felt settled into Rowland's world and got aquatinted with her characters, I could just let her wonderfully accessible style of writing sweep me from page to page to page to page. I'm a terribly slow reader and I usually use books to help me fall asleep. This one, however, I could simply NOT put down. It kept me awake and on my toes and my heart ACHING and sighing. I have a serious book hangover now.
You can see Rowland's background as a fanfiction writer and for my part, I LOVE this. 'A Taste of Gold and Iron' read a bit like a favourite fanfiction and because fanfiction are my Happy Place when the Real World (and anxiety and depression) come crashing in, Rowland's book, too, became this kind of feel-good, happy place.
I will absolutely read more from Alexandra Rowland and hope that she, too, has no intention to stop writing any time soon! =)
