All that said, At the Heart of Wintervale is not a typical power metal album. Twilight Force has ascended from simple power metal to triple-A cinematic adventure metal. This album could be a soundtrack to a Jackson or Spielberg film. While this band has been known to produce whimsical power metal, this album offers serious accompaniment and narration worthy of the high fantasy title.
To me, this is a continuous theme album that is really best enjoyed and most coherent from beginning to end as an epic rather than a collection of semi-related short stories. That isn't to say that the singles themselves aren't powerful in their own rite, however. The typical emotional soaring highs and crushing lows present in all TF songs thus far are present here and more intense thanks to terrific writing and arrangement. Lastly, the story telling is really front and center for this album which exponentially intensifies the overall impact. The only thing better than powerful music is having powerful music that tells a moving story.
Another impressive entry by Twilight Force that is a solid recommendation for all adventure metal fans.
My only complaint is that this album feels too short. Discounting the bonus tracks (two of which are just instrumental versions of existing songs and one of which is an extended version of the interlude), this album is about 13 minutes shorter than the previous album. At the Heart of Wintervale only has 7 new full-length songs on it, which is slightly disappointing. In contrast, the previous album had 10 full-length songs and the one before that had 11.
While the album is great, I don't think it quite transcends "Dawn of the Dragonstar" in terms of songwriting. Maybe time will change that but for now, this album more so just stays on the same level as the previous album. My one complaint, which someone else stated, is that it is short. I'll also add that the final track, "The Last Crystal Bearer" just kind of ends. There really isn't a resolution, musically anyway, and it felt like there should've been an epilogue or outro track to close out the album.
Another small little nitpick is what's included in the album. In the booklet, you have the lyrics and a map of the Twilight Kingdoms. Unfortunately, it's the same map from the past two albums, just a different color. Like I get it, we get maps with fantasy books and it makes sense but I would've enjoyed something more, like the character sheets from the 'Heroes of Mighty Magic' booklet (which was surprisingly missing from the vinyl set). Also, I wish there was new art instead of repurposing the 'Heroes of Mighty Magic' art of the band by adding Alessandro in Christian's place and giving Blackwald a beard. Still cool though!
All in all, as a fan who has been there since before the first single was released in early 2014, I'm very happy that Twilight Force has risen to the level they are at and have produced some of the finest power metal on the market. This only makes the desire for the next album even stronger.

I could not believe I found a song better then Sunlight Knight, but I was pleasantly surprised by 2. Dragonborn and The Last Crystal Bearer! (The Ladder based on the origin stories of the Twilight Bands' characters themselves VOICED by then too!) They took some direction and inspiration from Old Rhapsody (of Fire) Saga's, and honestly, it works out SO beautifully!
I could not recommend to you, or urge to you, to get this precious jewel of music, more than from this review. It is a breath of fresh air to see a bands' magic not only survive the pandemic, but also thrive onward from it with renewed courage, hope, and light!
Consider me a Knight of Twilight!
