Open Deeply: A Guide to Building Conscious, Compassionate Open Relationships Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 88 ratings

A full one-fifth of the United States has engaged in consensual non-monogamy (CNM) at some point in their lives, and 29 percent of adults under 30 today consider open relationships to be morally acceptable—yet there are few resources to turn to when it comes to navigating this more non-traditional and explorative territory.

Picking up where CNM self-help books like Open Up, The Ethical Slut, and More Than Two leave off, Open Deeply tackles the most difficult challenges posed by CNM. Therapist Kate Loree—who has practiced non-monogamy since 2003, and who specializes in treating clients who also practice non-monogamy—pulls no punches as she uses vignettes based on her own life, as well as her clients’ experiences, to illustrate the highs, lows, and in-betweens of life as a consensual non-monogamist. Interwoven with these stories are thorough explanations of how attachment theory impacts non-monogamy, how blending cutting-edge, neurobiology-informed grounding skills with effective communication skills will make even the most challenging conversations regarding non-monogamy manageable, and more. The result is a compassionate, attachment-focused template for non-monogamy that will allow listeners to avoid pitfalls and find adventure while concurrently building healthy relationships.

Non-monogamy is a wild and woolly ride—and Open Deeply is here to help make it a great one.

A must read practical and insightful guide to navigating non traditional relationships

A must read practical and insightful guide to navigating non traditional relationships
Open Deeply is a pleasure to read and filled with strategies and real examples. I learned so much about how to improve communication within open relationships as well as relationships in all forms. It has become a foundational book that I recommend to all my clients looking for a practical guide on how to navigate non traditional relationships. There is so much insight and compassion here and Kate Loree brings a refreshing and highly knowledgeable voice to the subject. This book is going to help so many people and should be required reading for all those interested in healthy relationships that don't fit into the traditional box.

I’ve read literally every book on this subject, and Open Deeply is the most thorough, compassionate, actionable, and helpful book on navigating polyamory out there, period, end of story. No one has figured out how to talk to people who aren’t already enthusiastic about nonmonogamy the way Kate Loree has. My husband and I went through several years of struggle with this, and no book helped us like this one did. I was an experienced poly person when we met, and it was brand new to him. This was the first book that made him feel seen and not denigrated as someone who was struggling, and it was a total game changer for us. I can’t recommend Open Deeply enough, and it’s my new top book recommendation when curious parties ask me for good resources.

Lots of books talk about the whole theory of ethical non-monogamy or polayamory, and those are really important. But this book will walk you through the various ways a real person can really engage in ENM relationships. The author is a therapist who has worked with people who engaged in this, and she has herself. So it's real practical ways to work through many of the things that come up. I would highly recommend reading this before start ing on this path because lots of things come up that can seriously derail your situation. But if you have a clue, like this book will provide, you can avoid unfortunate missteps

I loved every sentence in this book. Kate Loree presents information in a format that is easily accessible, progressive, informative, and thoughtful. This book as been my bible to improving communication and understanding with my partner, and considering how to be thoughtful in relating to each other and planning our next steps. I had the privilege of seeing Kate Loree speak at a retreat and she is a brilliant mind who has so much valuable information to share. Well worth every cent and more!

If you’re consensually non-monogamous (polyamorous, open, swing lifestyle, etc) this book needs to be in your library. Going well beyond the basics, it’s a practical guide for navigating the messy, tender, imperfect parts of open relationships in their many forms. Things like attachment style, mental health, coping strategies, societal conditioning, and trauma impact non-monogamous partners in unique ways. This book outlines strategies for compassionate communication, self-understanding, breaking unhealthy patterns, and decoding root causes of conflict. No more having to retrofit monogamy-specific relationship insight to polyamorous situations. This is a resource for building & sustaining healthy, fulfilling, sustainable multiple relationships written specifically for us!

As a somatic sex coach, I highly recommend this thoughtful and thorough book for those wanting to explore non/monogamy. The care and introspection poured into its pages is relatable to the newbie and experienced alike. I will be using this book as a reference both for myself, and a resource for my clients. As the title states, compassion is at the heart of this handbook, as eloquently expressed by Kate Loree.

I've already recommended this book to a few friends. This is the first non-monogamy book that I've felt was balanced. Thorough. It does a good job filling in the holes/gaps many of the other books leave.
