Wealth manager and host of The Fiscal Feminist podcast Kimberlee Davis taps her 25 years’ experience to teach women how to take charge of their money and control their financial destiny.
As a woman, you’re likely to live longer, earn less, and have to work harder than men to get ahead, especially if you’ve spent time out of the workforce raising children. What’s more, the pandemic has undone decades of progress in women’s long, slow march toward financial equality.
The good news is, you can improve your financial health and take charge of your destiny by increasing your financial literacy and healing your money issues. Kimberlee Davis, a wealth manager and host of The Fiscal Feminist podcast, taps her twenty-five years’ experience to show you how to independently achieve—and maintain—financial wellness on your own terms, no matter your age or circumstances.
In this book, you’ll learn how to:
- Dismantle obstacles to your financial health
- Make career choices that are in keeping with your financial goals
- Implement the five key steps to fiscal freedom
- Money-proof your relationship
- Get a jump start on retirement funding
- Avoid hidden financial risks and technology traps
- Invest for financial independence
Davis’s empowering message is: The better you understand your finances and your own choices regarding money, the more likely you will be to secure your future in both calm and turbulent times. This book will show you how.

From the Publisher
FACT: 85% of women manage their household’s everyday expenses, yet only 23% of them take the lead in long-term financial planning. Why is this? In The Fiscal Feminist, private wealth manager Kimberlee Davis points to a two-fold crisis among women when it comes to their money decisions: an issue of competence (acting with skill) and confidence (acting without fear).
First, regarding competence: women are a remarkably smart, hardworking group. We are better educated than men. We start more businesses. And studies show that when we do invest, we get better returns.
But we don’t invest enough or plan proactively enough, and this is in large part related to how we feel about our finances—our level of confidence. Many women assume that men are naturally better at handling money, or that they’ve picked up more training in life, or that managing finances is a scary task they shouldn’t have to do. But none of that is true.
This book closes both the competence and confidence gaps by teaching you how to:
Achieve financial literacy.

Kim’s writing is accessible and empowering—I appreciate how she breaks down concepts and vocabulary instead of just assuming that everyone should know this information automatically. She covers so many topics including marriage/divorce, cohabitation, debt, retirement, estate planning, and includes real world statistics and vignettes in each chapter to help the reader understand the historical context. As Kim says, ignorance is not bliss, and women need to take control of their financial future by becoming knowledgeable and taking action.
Did you know that when they have children, women take a 4% hit on her income and men get a 6% boost? It's called the motherhood penalty. Did you know that as recently as 1976, women in the US needed a male to co-sign their credit card application? There's more.... but this book is also chock full of tips and strategies that are useful no matter where you are on your personal financial management journey.
