Easy to make, turned out great

I was a little nervous making these since there were so many reviews about the recipe not coming out right. I followed the directions on the package, and it turned out just like the $8 boba drinks I buy near me. As another poster mentioned, they are not sweetened. I made a simple syrup with brown sugar (lots of recipes online), let it cool a bit then added the cooked and rinsed boba. If I were to do it again, I would let it sit in the simple syrup for at least 15 minutes (mine was more like 5) since they didn't turned out quite sweet enough. Still loved it though! There was also a recipe online about how to freeze boba, which is just to put it into ice cube trays, adding a little extra simple syrup at the top of each cube. Afterwards, you can microwave and it will get the boba soft again. I haven't tried that part yet but fingers crossed it works!

Decent boba, but not amazing

Several reviews mention moisture in the packaging. Mine also had moisture, but I will say that the packaging does specifically mention that some moisture is to be expected and is not a concern.

As far as the boba is concerned, the preparation is simple, however it does not take “5 minutes” as the packaging states. After a 5 minute boil and a 5 minute steep mine is still a bit more chewy than I would prefer. After about 15 minutes you have a decent version of what you’ll find in a boba shop.

Long story short, the boba is fine, the taste is correct, but the texture is a bit chewier than I would prefer, but not awful at all.

These pearls are just like the ones in all the boba shops. They can be made in 5 min if you do the absolute cooking time per the instructions, however I recommend boiling for 4 and simmer for 3. Do the quick 15-20 sec blanche in ice water, then strain right away and sweeten.

We made a mixture of just brown sugar and honey, and a smidge of the hot water used to boil the pearls. Let them soak for about 10 min, and you're all set for delicious boba! If you use a 1/2 cup scoop, you'll get about 6-8 drinks PER BAG, substantially cheaper than going to the shop!!

Boba is supposed to be soft and chewy! If you've had it more rigid, it's over cooked. If it's gritty in the middle, it's undercooked. All boba has to sit in sweetener, the label calling it brown sugar means this is the boba pearl style that you marinate in brown sugar. It differentiates it from popping boba (fruit flavors and they cannot be heated) and Golden boba which is strictly honey soaked (delicious!)

Best flavors I'd recommend for the tea portion of milk tea would be either Jasmine Green, London Fog, or Roasted Soba/buckwheat (caffeine free).

This boba is also one of the cheapest per pound you'll find, at least by the time I've made this review

I tried these in 2020 and ever since they've become an absolute FIXTURE in my pantry. I've never actually been to a boba tea shop, but the concept of the pearls appealed to the part of me that sees frog eggs and wants to just stick them in my mouth for the texture. I can make these half-asleep before coffee, and indeed I pop them right into the blended chocolate coffees I make myself every morning. They're also fabulous in lemonade or even just plain milk! Gets you a little bit of food if you don't feel like eating, gets you a little bit of water if you don't feel like drinkin. Just stick to the black ones; I tried the clear/colour ones once and they're flavourless--which I suppose is great if you're looking for that sorta thing. I don't know how I'd really *describe* the flavour of the black ones--you don't notice they have one until you've tried the clear/colour kind and realise oh yeah wow the black ones DO be tasting like... something.

I thought by the packaging saying five minutes and black sugar flavor that these bobas would not only taste good, but be very quick and easy and they were not quick and easy. The bag says five minutes on the front but on the back really you have to boil them for five minutes and then let them simmer for another 3 to 5 minutes and then cool them off for another 20 seconds and then strain them and then put them in a bowl and add your own sugar. They are not sweet at all. You have to add sugar. Overall, it took me like 20 minutes to prepare a drink. I will not be buying these again because I am lazy and do not want to take the time to make Boba for 10 minutes or longer. They should advertise the Boba more appropriately and not lie on the front.

Very impressed - easier to work with than other pearls I've purchased and ends up in a good result. I add brown sugar after I strain them and let the residual liquid around the pearls form the syrup. Just be aware these aren't like the common "maple syrup" sweetened ones - they will have a subtle molasses taste. I'm a fan of it but my husband prefers other flavours.
