This Knife features the Virobloc Safety rings.

  • Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all folding knives sizes No6 through No12. Cut out of stainless steel, the Virobloc has two sections, one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade open (safety while in use), it is now possible to lock the blade closed (safety on the go)

Not the perfect outdoor knife.
Due to the more massive blade, the locking ring bends and there is no feeling of strength when in use. Also, the hole in the blade gets caught when cutting food. I would recommend not buying this one and get the classic opinel with a stainless steel blade, which remains one of my favorite folding knives. happy shopping for everyone.

I have several Opinel knives. Their design is simple and robust. Most of mine have carbon blades and wooden handles. I got this one to keep in my get home bag. The bright color will make it easy to find. The whistle may come in handy;and also negates the need for a separate item. The stainless blade makes it care free. And, the lanyard will most likely be useful, although I will be replacing it with a longer one that will allow me to carry it around my neck. The price is outstanding. You're not not going to find a better knife for the money.

This is a standard Opinel 8 but not so "Plain Jane". It comes with a wild but tastefully colored handle, a better grip, a lanyard, a whistle, and a great ocking system.
