A story to help understanding a neurodivergent brain.
Created and inspired by my daughters ADHD diagnosis, I wanted to gift her a book that help explained her brain's processes and needs. No big words or acronyms that result in 'what does that mean' and bring the child out of the story.

"Brains are just like cars, they all drive round and round a track, picking up information and then bringing it back. Some brains are Race Cars that like to drive extra fast. Sometimes though, they forget to sop and fully complete a task.'
But driving cars fast all the time and not servicing or maintaining them leads to overheating and burnout.
We can apply that same logic to our brains.

I am so proud of this book, and sharing with friends I have been told the same principles talked about in this book apply to their children who are on the spectrum.

What this book is:
An explanation of common traits in a neurodivergent brain
Giving SELF regulation tools to the child to use themselves to assist with the plan and treatment around them
A book to open conversation between you and the child about their individual selves and why you both do what you do to manage and assist and uplift.

What this book is not:
Going to explain treatment or management approaches as that is an individual or tailored experience.
Going to specify traits in detail as once again it is again so individual.

My children saw themselves in the pages of this lovely book. My oldest repeatedly said, “oh, that’s me” on various pages. It is thoughtful with delightful, engaging illustrations. I highly recommend this book! I have already bought copies for our local elementary school. Every classroom and neurodivergent child should have this book.

The writer of this book is definitely neurodivergent herself and knows what it's like for an ASD/ADHD person and their experience. This is the best way to affirm, validate and normalize these neurotypes. I have used this to help others understand people with ASD and ADHD and Anxiety. I recommend this book 100%!!!!

Loved this description for how brains work and emotions. Will be reading and referencing it a lot as a preschool teacher!

This book is adorable, and positively describes what it's like to have an ADHD brain.

My one complaint is the page about "food choices." A lot of ADHDers have sensory aversions that make eating certain foods more difficult - meaning that the "healthy foods" shown may not be possible for us to eat. For some ADHD children, showing narrow types of food as being what they should eat could hurt. Not all ADHD children have food aversions, or would be bothered by that page, however.

Back to the positives about this book: I think that it could really help fight the idea that an atypical brain is somehow defective. I really like how the book showed some of the struggles an ADHD brain has in such an understanding and caring way, instead of describing the protagonist as misbehaving.

Love this book for my child to explain how his brain works
Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2023
This book is a great example of how all our brains work differently, especially those brains that get a bit distracted or scattered. It doesn’t specifically mention ADHD, autism or any other neurodivergence, but it can be applied to all differences and is helpful in positively explaining our differences. My five year old is drawn to this book & asks me to read it to him.

Great book to help kids understand their neurodivergence and for parents to better understand them. Perfect! My daughter's brain seems to always go 100+mph. This explains it.

5.0 out of 5 stars My autistic child LOVES this.
Reviewed in Canada on February 23, 2024
So I know it's primarily written for ADHD kids, but it 100% fits for autistic kids too. My kid loves it cause she literally sees herself (we got to the page about wearing headphones and she was like "That's just like me!"). It's really good at explaining that people have different brains and needs. I was worried that it would be a little to imagery driven, but it constantly comes back to the brain, and most the pictures are brains not just racecars, so it's very easy for littles to follow. This was effective enough that after the first time reading, my kid said she has a racecar brain, asked if I do (I do) and if her dad does (he doesn't) and she immediately got it. Apparently now our brains are buddies.

I seriously love this book BUT be careful ordering off Amazon. I ordered mine and the spine was broken in two places, and there were tears. The handling of this book was SO poor on Amazon's part.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it to my son, ended up
Reviewed in Brazil on June 2, 2023
I actually got emotive reading this book to my son. I mean, I was diagnosed with ADHD only recently, at 42. This book talked to my inner child, that one who has always been scolded for being distracted, agitated, forgetful and everything. It says that it's ok to be you, you just need a bit of extra help to get through your day.

Thank you, Nell, from bottom of my heart. This book really means a lot to me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not sure since the book is not fully printed
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 8, 2024
The books seems OK, but it's hard to know since it's missing at least 4 pages that have not been printed. You would think that the quality control will pick up this before it reaches the customer.

Edit: changed the review from two stars to 1 star. I asked for a replacement, sent the faulty book back and... Surprise, it came with 4 blank pages at the end too. So I did some research and it seems the book it's not missing any pages. So why would the put those extra pages? Why would the description say 28 pages when 4 of them are empty? That's misleading and it made me waste my time looking for an answer somewhere else and doing some returns. And the worst thing, it was printed in the UK by Amazon. So, 24 pages printed for 10 pounds, which is not even cheap, and they cannot remove the last 4 empty pages so it looks profesional? Unacceptable

Edit 2: changed my review from 1 to 4 stars, since I guess the author is not directly at fault for the extra blank pages. It it would be printed correctly I would give 5 stars.
