Beautiful written, hard to put down. Grann presents the story of Fawcett, you almost think he was with him in the Amazon. Definitely a must read if you like adventure based on true stories.

Great gift...

This book was so well-written that it was more captivating than most works of fiction. The author did an outstanding job of weaving together the facts and history of the search for the Lost City of Z with details that made you feel that you were part of the adventure. An excellent read!

'The Lost City of Z' is a story about the life of Percy Fawcett, the famed Amazon explorer of the early 1900s. The man had a dream of finding a mythical city of gold deep in the jungle. The author goes into great detail about his life, adventures and everything connected to him. The author has clearly done his research. But I somehow found the book to be less than compelling. It seemed little more than a good packaging of information that has long been publicly available.

Bottom line: a literary reliving of a man who was larger than life but left this reader bored. Not recommended.

it was a pretty good read, the end was a bit disappointing but then again what did I expect.

Way better than the movie. Hard to put down. Easy to follow.

Never read this book however, I know the story and seen the movie. Also, I've been to the Amazonas as the locals call it in northern Peru. What's amazing about this region is all you see is jungle for miles to the horizon. I traveled with a native guide from the area. He spoke two languages his native and Amazonas Spanish that is a different dialect than your typical Spanish you hear in Mexico or Latin America. Even if you were well taught in the language you had a difficulty being understood. So we traveled down the Amazon River in a region called Simeria just south of Iquitos. I saw howler monkeys, river dolphins, trancalas, wild forest that when on forever I felt so small there. He took me to the largest tree I've ever seen. Amazing place no ruins but the jungle was so thick you couldn't see more that a few feet in front of you. I see why this man spent his time looking for the Lost City of Z. One day I'll return here and head up the Rio Nana in the far North West Peru near the border with Ecuador. In this area the natives say, no outsider has ever stepped foot. Who knows what I might find there maybe a Lost City similar to Z..

Another great adventure story filled with facts and history. I don't understand "obsession" to this degree; sometimes it borders on insanity.
