Detection of events is strange - meaning will get cars in the street but not people on my walk
It makes a good wifi connection, and the solar panel works well. But, the detection will get cars on my block and the block at the end, but not people coming up my walk. They say it only really works at less than 25'. But the front door is less than 15 feet away. If quickly leaving the house then walking to the cars in the driveway it captures nothing. Yes, it has a dedicated detection zone set there! It will capture a slow departure out the door but then almost always stops after 12 seconds regardless of motion - i watch it work to test - even though the setting is it continue to capture as long as there is activity. This obviously will not be sufficient if there is a rapid succession of events - the kind of things I want to capture! Also, their plan to record once the trial is over is kind of expensive. Some earlier reviews may have been looking at the wrong pricing, or those plans have doubled/tripled, and it is not easy to get information on what you are really getting for your subscription. My return window is closed or i would return it. Do you want to buy it?

I had the Arlo pro2 set up with solar and a few of my cameras wouldn’t hold a charge so I decided to upgrade to the Arlo pro 5s. WHAT A MISTAKE! Turns out you can no longer record clips unless you pay a monthly subscription. (Except during the 30 day free trial they give you once you buy the cameras, which is just enough to get you passed the 30 day return policy)
What you can do is get notifications for free and hope you can get the app to load fast enough view live to see if you can find what’s setting off your camera. Or get a micro sd card for local storage and once you get back on the home WiFi you can scroll through all the greyd tiles and slowly load each one to view if anything looks suspicious. (That’s if you upgrade and buy the home base station)
And top it all off I bought the solar panels for these cameras too because of course they changed the charging ports. So now I’m out almost a grand for cameras I could barely use and now can’t return
