This sillcock key is pretty solid and doesn't feel like it will strip easily. Though its large enough to comfortably grab, the lack of texture to the tool can create a challenge if you are sweaty on those humid hot summer days.. or if your hands are wet after opening the valve.
I also want to note that this tool is made of two pieces put together, not one single solid piece. The reason I mention this is because under extreme pressure it could potentially break. Based on how it feels I doubt you can break it unless you try. Most valves would fail before this tool...
Now I need to order one to keep in my BOB..
- It is small, heavy and looks like it will last a long time.
- I do wish their was a case or clipping ring attached to this device.
- Price is fair. Seriously, this little bugger can be hard to find and you might have to drive from store to store before you A) find one or B) find a clerk who knows what one of these are (amazing how many folks think you are using dirty words when using the name of this device... sheesh!).
- It is a good tool to add to your BOB for urban emergency situations. Check YouTube for references as to how to use it, and what other gear to include with it.
- Why did I knock it down 1 star? It shipped via US Postal (which has difficulty delivering mail to the correct houses in my neighborhood).

Imagine this scenario: for whatever reason, you are bugging out, and have to travel through an urban or suburban area, or even along an interstate highway. It's hot. Dang hot. And you need water. There's no streams or lakes or ponds nearby. Nothing is open, and there's no power to operate a soda machine, even if there was one around. You've got a container in your bug-out bag, but you need a source of clean water.
Ever seen those special faucets without handles on the side of a convenience store or gas station, or other commercial building?
It's known as a keyed sillcock hydrant. They are everywhere in the suburban and urban environment. They're used by building maintenance people for connecting water hoses for washing sidewalks, etc. It's a good bet that almost all have good water in them 24/7/365, whether the business is open or not. Even with the power down, there's probably going to be some pressure left, which allows you to get some hydration.
Without a sillcock key, it's going to be hard to get water. Get one for your bug-out-bag!
