The 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A* VC RXD (Model B070) is a large aperture everyday zoom lens for Sony E-mount APS-C mirrorless cameras. Fast, sharp, quiet, and small—this new APS-C zoom lens is extraordinarily versatile and perfect for everyday photography. The lens was created to achieve a broad zoom range and excellent image quality with a focal length range of 17-70mm (a full-frame equivalent of 25.5-105mm). The 17-70mm F2.8 standard zoom lens with a 4.1x zoom ratio is ideal for APS-C cameras. The 17-70mm F2.8 includes Tamron's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation). When shooting video, by utilizing AI technology, image stabilization performance improves compared to conventional models. Designed specifically for use with APS-C mirrorless cameras, the lens is light weight and compact, even with VC. Its small size and versatility make it a great choice for outdoor, travel and vacation photography, where compact camera bags are preferred, and of course for daily use. Additionally, photographers / users can take advantage of a close working distance. It features an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.19m (7.5 in) at the wide-angle end and 0.39m (15.4 in) at the telephoto end. The lens is equipped with Tamron’s RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) AF drive system, a high-speed, precision stepping motor unit. It also incorporates a wide variety of other features, including Moisture-Resistant Construction and Fluorine Coating for added durability. In your everyday life and on your trips to distant places, this lens captures all the excitement and discoveries with the finest possible detail. *Di III-A is the new designation for Tamron's line of lenses exclusively for APS-C mirrorless cameras.

Fast F2.8 aperture available throughout the entire zoom range
The 17-70mm F2.8 maintains its large F2.8 maximum aperture throughout the entire zoom range (unlike variable aperture lenses that darken as you zoom). Thanks to F2.8 and high optical performance, 17-70mm F2.8 allows you to capture your subjects with clear details from wide angle to telephoto. The three main advantages of a large F2.8 aperture are: A) ability to shoot successfully in lower light levels, B) beautiful and dreamy bokeh, and C) better control of depth-of-field which is particularly useful when intentionally limiting depth-of-field to improve portraits by blurring the area behind the main subject. Structurally, the optical formula includes 16 elements in 12 groups. It was created in pursuit of superior optical performance, utilizing an effective allocation of two GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements and one aspherical hybrid lens element. The optical design ensures high resolution and high contrast not just in the center of the frame but also in corners and at the edges.

The PERFECT lens given the amount of range you get for the price
I am in utter disbelief that ended up choosing this lens over a more ‘popular’ brand.Comparing this lens to other lens of the same price range. It hits them all out of the park.Comparing this lens to other lens with a similar range STILL hits them all out of the park since the other lenses that have range like this are up to 4x more expensive than this one. Yes, over $3,000.The one thing that I did need to buy was a lens filter since I record a lot outdoors. This is the only lens that I have had that is so easy to put the filter on and take off in seconds.

I have been using this Tamron on my Fx30 rig for a couple months now and its been wonderful!
While I first used a 24-70, I was seeking to use a lens that was a bit wider, however, I didn't want to switch lens on the go. This 17-70 is perfect for my work in weddings and conferences. I have even used this for some interesting shots in real estate.
If you're looking for a flexible, budget, and solid lens for your APSC camera, you can not go wrong with this. Its clean, sharp, decently light, all for a good price. Try this lens!

This is a great lens! It's light, has stabilization (which is a must for every Sony APSC camera) and takes sharp photos.
All the photos I shot are unedited and straight out of the a6300 with the Tamron 17-70mm in Aperture Priority.
This lens worked really well when I needed to get close shots of an actor when I was granted a media pass to a travel show in Dallas. I was able to keep my distance and allow the actor to meet with his fans but still able to get some intimate shots of them interacting.
The zoom range is perfect for really close and wide shots, and zoomed out shots with nice bokeh with a portrait look. I've yet to try it on the street but I'm sure it will work great.
If you want this lens, watch for a price drop now and then. I sat on the fence when it was at $599 and then it went back to $699. A few weeks later it dropped to $599 and I snatched it up. For that price it was a no-brainer and I don't regret adding this to my lens collection. I have it all covered now with my 16mm prime, Tamron 17-70mm and the Tamron 70-300mm.
