Two thousand years from now archaeologist George Bradley discovers an Elvin ruin. Computer staff in hand, he seeks to prove it only to fall through a ripple in reality.
George finds himself hunted in a world where magic defeated science. He’s desperate to find his way home in the place where only those of elvin descent can do magic. But George is mistaken for a mage; even though, humans can’t have souls.
Here the Lord of Demons rages, intent on destroying all life at last. The Gateway to Other Worlds has opened. His nemesis, the Highmage, desperate to save the Empire has Summoned the impossible – a human mage.
Fate has brought George, a man without magic into a world he finds difficult to understand. Worse, he’s no hero—but when everyone seems to want you dead—he may have no choice but to become a wizard—fast.

This is a very good somewhat light fantasy portal novel. It is well written and edited. Too find the cursed society and the Giants particularly enchanting. I anxiously await the sequel.

George Bradley is studying an Elven ruin then falls through a gateway to a world of magic! George has no magic and only wants to find a way home... I thought this book was interesting and I really like the characters. I was drawn in from the beginning and enjoyed some surprising twists. This was an entertaining read. There are more books to this series so I'm looking forward to more fun...

The book had some slow points, but well-written characters, ongoing action, and an intriguing world made it easy to be drawn along. One of the best books I've read in years.

It had strong female characters, an advanced fantasy world, and the promise of years of entertainment.

I chose three stars because I did not like the way this book was written dreams meshed with thoughts and then reality to move ahead the story had no sense. Will I read the continued story in book 2?, nope not a chance

The story was always interesting, loved it, there were a few lines I couldn’t understand had to read over a few times, very entertaining till the end

Told from the POV of several characters makes this an interesting story. I wouldn't mind a specific indicator when POV changes, but after a few lines, it's easy enough to pick up. on.

The storyline is intriguing. Suck a future-based archaeologist into a magical world where tech-based human settlers ended up centuries ago. (And the humans lost). I liked the fact that readers were dropped into the world and learned about it as the MC did.

It moves at a good pace, and is enjoyable. It ended midpiece - for the next book's start I suppose. 3.5 star rating from me.

Lovely tale. I am glad that the writing errors have been corrected making Highmage quiet enjoyable. Hopefully we will see more of these characters in future stories.

I completely enjoyed this book, and I've gone on and read the rest of the series. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys deep characters with full back stories, (although you may have to keep reading to see the backstory). The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because sometimes it's a little too complicated, and I had to re-read a little to keep it straight. But it's an original storyline and very entertaining

book started out at a good pace. Then it seemed to become scattered. Scenes jumped from one to another with no cohesion. I was very disappointed towards the end of the story.
