About the Author

Stan and Jan Berenstain were already successful cartoonists for magazines and adult humor books when they began writing children's books. The first story starring the bear family, The Big Honey Hunt, appeared in 1962. Since then, more than 360 Berenstain Bears books have been published, and more than 300 million copies have been sold. What began as an idea sparked by their young sons' love of reading has become one of the best-selling children's book series ever.

This was a perfect book to read to my children (4 and 2) as we sold our house in New York in and moved to Colorado. It led to open discussions about the move, the new house, our old house and got them excited about the future during a confusing time for small children.

"The Berenstain Bears' Moving Day" stands as a timeless and heartwarming classic, offering young readers a comforting and empathetic portrayal of the challenges associated with moving. As the first Berenstain Bears book, it takes readers on a journey with Mama, Papa, and Brother Bear as they bid farewell to their old mountain home, embrace the nostalgia of saying goodbye to friends, and embark on the adventure of moving to their beloved tree house down a sunny dirt road.

The book is a well-executed and charming guide for young children experiencing a move, capturing the essence of change with empathy and understanding. A notable aspect of the story is when Brother Bear expresses his worries about leaving friends behind. Mama and Papa Bear respond with empathy, sharing that they too are leaving friends behind and emphasizing the ways they can stay connected through writing or visiting.

The narrative skillfully addresses the anxieties associated with moving while highlighting the silver linings of change. The parents' discussion about making new friends sets the stage for a wonderful follow-through as Brother Bear discovers plenty of new cubs to befriend upon arriving at the tree house. This thoughtful portrayal of change and resilience is one of the book's many strengths.

"The Berenstain Bears' Moving Day" is a comforting and beautifully crafted story that showcases the beloved Berenstain Bear characters navigating a significant life event with grace and optimism. The familiar characters and relatable storyline make it an invaluable resource for families undergoing similar transitions. Highly recommended for its empathy, charm, and positive message about embracing change and finding new friendships. It's a wonderful resource for parents, educators, and young readers alike, providing a reassuring message that change, though challenging, can bring unexpected joys and new friendships.

My husband is in the military, and we are approaching our 3 year old's first PCS move. We got her this book to prepare her for what moving is and what will happen. I think it does a good job of explaining how we will take all our things with us, but we will miss our friends. And how we will make new friends while keeping in touch with the old ones. She loves the Berenstain Bears, so it's great to have familiar characters discussing the subject of moving.

Great everyday values to import to our children/grandchildren! Moving is stressful, so hoping this will help the parents with their children!

I am a Realtor, and I gave this as part of a closing gift basket to new homeowners with a small family. The night before they moved, they read it all together. The parents were so grateful, and it eased the stress on the children. This is a well done, very helpful book for anyone moving with children.

Another wonderful book from the Bernstein Bears. We all grew up on these books and it's wonderful that they're continuing to make them so we can now read them with our children. This one was for my nephew to help with a move.

I read this book many times over as a kid, and now I get to share it with my children. It’s just as good now as it was then. Especially if you’re planning to move soon with young children, this book will be so helpful in preparing them, but even if you just want a simple, beautifully told and illustrated story, this book (and series, really) is for you! Buy it, you won’t regret it.

We have been preparing for a big move to another state for quite a while. We have a 2.5 & 4 year old. We read books about moving just about everyday to prepare them for such a big move & I do believe it helps immensely.

This particular book is wordy in some areas, especially in the beginning (this kind of stuff drives me nuts). I also feel it’s a bit repetitive in areas not necessary or really relatable for children. What I like is, that it addresses some important things. And the book has sparked questions & conversations with our kids.

Two things stood out to me. First, they talk about packing everything & not leaving their things behind (my kids have really worried about leaving their things behind). Of all the other moving books we read this directly talks about packing ALL their things, including brother bears toys & books.

Second, brother bear asks about leaving friends behind. The parents then express how they are leaving their friends behind too but how they can stay in touch with them by writing or visiting. The parents also talk about making new friends & when they get to the new house brother bear find plenty of other cubs to become friends with.

I also want to mention that they move into a fixer-upper. They don’t go into detail with the fixing of but at the end it’s all beautifully fixed up.

Other moving books to check out (all on Amazon):
Boomer’s Big Day by Constance W. McGeorge (our family favorite)
Big Ernie’s New Home by Teresa & Whitney Martin

We bought this book a month before our move-out date to another state and started reading in to our daughter the same day it arrived. It is a little long for her age (2), so I usually cut some sentences out or skipped pages (what parent doesn't right?). Anyways, not sure it was because of the book, but she really handled the move very well and understood what the boxes were about. A recommendation is to also include her as much as possible in the move. Have them pack, see how the movers load the truck, anything that is similar to the pictures or text in the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Adapté aux enfants 3-5 ans
