From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Book Lovers and Beach Read comes a sparkling novel that will leave you with the warm, hazy afterglow usually reserved for the best vacations.

Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.

Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.

Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven't spoken since.

Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.

Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

Editorial Reviews

Review

“What Henry is especially skilled at is writing dialogue. The banter between Poppy and Alex is so natural, quick and witty that it would make Shonda Rhimes do a slow clap.”
The Associated Press

“Beach Read fans, assemble. Emily Henry is back with another smart, steamy romance….Warning: you will feel all the feels. And probably shed a few tears.”
The Skimm

“The strength of People We Meet on Vacation [is] the clever observations, the dialogue (which is laugh-out-loud funny) and, most particularly, the characters. Funny and fumbling and lovable, they’re most decidedly worth the trip."
The Wall Street Journal

“A delightful love story full of hilarious one-liners and winking asides, making it the perfect poolside companion.”
Real Simple

“Emily Henry is my newest automatic-buy author, and
People We Meet on Vacation is the perfect getaway: a heartfelt, funny, tender escape that you wish could last forever.”
Jodi Picoult, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Book of Two Ways

People We Meet on Vacation is a gorgeous slow-burn romance, full of sexual tension and tantalizing possibility. I fell head over heels for Alex and Poppy, and loved travelling all over the world with them both.”
Beth O'Leary, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Flatshare

“This is a perfect rom com, and I completely adored it. I think Emily Henry might be our generation's answer to Nora Ephron. A witty, warm page turner.”
Sophie Cousens, New York Times bestselling author of GMA book club pick This Time Next Year

“Emily Henry is a STAR! Deeply emotional and starkly funny, People We Meet on Vacation cements Emily Henry as the Queen of Banter. Rom-com fans will swoon over this slow burn friends-to-lovers romance. Poppy and Alex are real and flawed and ultra-lovable, and their Summer Trips will scratch an itch for those of us who’ve missed traveling. A perfect summer read!”
Alexis Daria, bestselling author of You Had Me at Hola

“A compulsively readable book full of sparkling wit, dazzling prose and a romance that grabbed me by the heart and wouldn't let me go.”
Abby Jimenez, USA Today bestselling author of Life’s Too Short

“An absolute delight: swoony, legitimately moving, and packed with witty banter that makes Alex and Poppy jump off the page. We are already waiting impatiently for whatever Emily writes next.”
Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan, USA Today bestselling authors of The Royal We and The Heir Affair

“Henry’s biggest strength is in the sparkling, often laugh-out-loud-funny dialogue, particularly the banter-filled conversations between Poppy and Alex. The end result is a story that pays homage to classic romantic comedies while having a point of view all its own. A warm and winning
When Harry Met Sally update that hits all the perfect notes.”
Kirkus Reviews

“Henry’s skills with sensory detail and lovable characters shine through. This is a strong choice for readers looking for a vicarious summer vacation of their own.”

I loved this book!
I gave this book a 10/10. It was the first Emily Henry book I read, as it’s her most popular. I’ve finished one other since then, that I gave a 9/10, and they’ve made me want to purchase all of her books - so I did. I recommend this book to anyone thinking about reading it!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! I found the characters quirky, fun & interesting. I, also, enjoyed learning a bit about places they traveled. It was a great read & hard to put down. Look forward to reading another book by Emily Henry.

The pace is much different from Beach Read. Must faster, but without giving everything away before the end.
The friends to lovers trope is great and so well done. I love how Henry I able to write swoon worthy love stories but without being cliche or cringe, and really focus on how you can’t just be in a relationship without being in the right headspace also. She’s great!! Really love her work.
This one was also funnier, even though the personal struggles in Beach Read was better executed imo, but it better written and I feel like you can sense Henry is landing in her writing as literary fiction with romance plots.

I liked that they needed time apart to figure out if and how they could be together, after their vacation. It really put the personal development and wellbeing first.

Only “dislike” would be the many vacations. It felt like one or two too many. It could be that I generally don’t like two storylines, but I found that I was bit ‘sad’ when the flashbacks came, because it wasn’t untill the end of those chapters that I felt they made any sense or gave anything to the plot. So a great force to push the story forward, and some very great chapters (Norway/Sweden vacation looking at you👀), but often it felt like something to get through..

Stilled loved the book tho<333

I love this book. It hooks you in from the beginning - you know something went down between the main characters, but you get only bits and pieces during time jumps. I love a good friends to lovers trope, and I especially love how Emily Henry shows character development. I feel like her books are very relatable, very funny, and just overall amazing.

It started out well enough. Written in an easy to read way but then most of it was just bogged down in repetitive details. It reminded me of those dime store cheesy romance novels where they both like each other but basic failures to communicate prove to be a long and winding road full of agnst where lo and behold they realize they have actually loved each all along and end up together in a very happy, damn near perfect life. So, yes, the ending that you knew was coming was, the best part.

I have to get it out of the way: the premise of Poppy's dropping out of college and her job was just so wildly implausible. I work in the editorial/journalism industry. There are unpaid/underpaid internships you can't even get without a college degree. The idea that she just kind of dropped out of college and managed to get what would have to be a writing job earning 60K+ easily (being that she lives on her own in Manhattan). It's not physically impossible, but very highly improbable. - Honestly, this was just one piece of why this book felt laden with (sorry to be that b-word) white privilege. There was just such a prototypical uppereschalance whiteness about everyone, even the characters that were allegedly working-class/blue collar types. - By the end of the book, I didn't really like Poppy. Nothing about her felt like she matured or grew over the years. She was 30, and she felt the same at 18, 22, 24. She was always the same. I know the core of her character was meant to be her very true herself like "She's always been Poppy," but people refine themselves with age. They change in their awareness and interests, but not Poppy. She was statically childish. - God, it sounds like I hated the book, but I didn't. Emily Henry is a good writer. She does have a wonderful way of conveying emotion, but the characters had a VERY SIMILAR energy to the hero/heroine from Beach Read (hunched over handsome man, petite protypically-attractive and clueless white girl). It makes me wonder if I'm just going to be reading different inerations of the same people over and over again. I doubt Emily will ever see this, but if you do: have a heroine with cellulite who wears size 12 jeans and doesn't sound like a pixie. Make her brash and intelligent yet wonderfully kind. Dare to do more with your characters than making them idealized white people, please for the love of all things holy!

People we meet on Vacation, Ms. Henry executed this story beautifully. I was able to take each and every vacation with Poppy and Alex, while also seeing their life. Without even noticing this story had me meet myself and ask myself the same questions that our main characters were asking themselves. I am happy with the flow of the story, and the choices that were made. Give the book a chance, I believe you will love it too.

I love this book so much. I don't remember when I bought it and read it (it was a while ago) but I still remember how much I loved this book. It is a good romance book and I love Emily Henry as an author.
