We spent a week camping on the California coast. When we received the tent about 3 weeks ago, we did set it up in the backyard to make sure we got the hang of it. While it was setup in the yard, I also applied ScotchGuard to all the seams as I do with most of my outdoor gear.
One of the things that help with packing this away: When I unpacked it, I took photos along the way so we would know exactly how to refold things so that they fit back into the bag. That worked out really well. What also helped is that the Cole tent bags are a little more generous than the Coleman's. Coleman tent bags, sleeping bag sleeves, etc are always very tight. The Cole tent fit in snugly, but you don't have to wrestle with it.
Rain: We did get about 1/4" of rain on one of the nights we were there. The tent held up fine with no leaks. After the rain ended, the wind came. there are some air vents on the ends of this tent which I closed so that the wind wouldn't come in. It felt very sturdy with in the wind. I used my own metal "spike" tent stakes.
Negative: this is advertised as a 10 person tent. OK, maybe 10 small people without any gear. This is an industry-wide problem with several manufacturers of tents. We had 3 adults and one teen-ager, with gear, with plenty of room to spare. It's really great that the walls are straight - it adds alot to the space.
We plan to take this to the Sierra's in the late summer, so we'll update this review upon our return.
Would I buy this again - in a heartbeat !
