Friends With Benedicts: A Small Town Romantic Comedy Kindle Edition
Presley Hale and Sebastian Vargas are no strangers to goodbye. Their high school summers were spent wrapped up in each other until she would inevitably go home to California. One season after college, Sebastian finally escaped the little Texas town to travel the world, and they said goodbye for what they thought might be the last time.
Sebastian went one way. Presley went the other.
For the first time in five years, they’re both in town, but the timing is no better than ever. So the only thing to do is what they do best. Keep it casual. Friends with benefits. They’ve done it before—doing it again will be easy.
But their hearts don’t get the memo.
When the lines of their arrangement blur, Presley and Sebastian are faced with decisions they’ve avoided for years. And that’s not even their biggest problem.
A small town in danger of failing.
A secret that could tear them apart.
And two hearts that can’t hide anymore.
They’ve shared so many summers, but none compare to what they’ll face.
Timing is everything. And their time is almost up.

About the author

I was the kid who stayed inside to read.
As a four-eyed nerd with a bad perm, I was no one’s dodgeball pick, but I had a lot of friends. Frodo and Bilbo, for instance. Kristy, Stacey, Claudia and the gang (iykyk). Once, in the third grade, I wrote a teen murder mystery inspired by Christopher Pike. On solving my mystery in twelve pages, I decided I was a terrible writer and should never, ever do that again.
Fortunately, I didn’t take my own advice.
I write romance for that feeling you get at the end, like you’re standing on top of a mountain with a backpack full of hundred dollar bills. I write romcoms because is there anything better than banter and grand gestures? I write because I love to create and I love words. I love books, and I love stretching my imagination. I love love, and if you do too, bring your coffee and have a seat. I think we’re gonna be friends.

I love small town romances and I loved Staci Hart’s previous book ‘Bet The Farm’ so I was excited to read Friends With Benedicts, especially because we met Presley in Bet The Farm.
I really liked how this story started, it was a cute start with Presley and Sebastian reuniting straight away. It made me smile watching them reconnect after years apart.
They had never had the right timing in the past, summer hookups before one of them going away. But now with both of them back in town at the same time, this could be their time… however things aren’t that easy. There is something that turns their world upside down, Presley has been preparing for this moment for years while Sebastian is shocked at the secret. He takes it in his stride though and reacts way better than I think most people would.
Presley and Sebastian decide to rekindle their relationship for the summer, with the future mostly depending on if Sebastian wants to go back to Africa with the Peace Corps. Their hearts end up getting fully involved no matter if their timing is right.
I liked Presley and Sebastian and their families. What I love about small town romances is the charm of the town and I felt this with this book. I loved getting to know the town.
Presley and Sebastian have great chemistry after years of being in love with each other even if the timing is wrong and they’re with other people. I liked their banter and their relationships with their families. They were a great pair and you could tell they were conflicted about the future and their feelings.
Things weren’t easy and there is some miscommunication that leads to broken hearts but I think they worked it out well in the end thanks to their friends calling them out.
Although I could tell that they loved each other, I felt like I was missing some romance. I didn’t swoon at anything and I thought a lot of the focus of the book was away from the romance and was focused on what was happening with the town and if Sebastian was staying.
It was a cute read if you love small town romances and if you’re curious about what happens to Presley after reading Bet The Farm.
Staci Hart always knows how to put me in the right mood right after a reading slump. I absolutely loved this one especially because of the secret baby trope!
Small town romances are my favourite, and this one was no different. I loved watching Sebastian, Priscilla and Presley’s relationship grow, especially because Sebastian is just too damn sweet!
If you love a sweet second chance romance set in a small town, this ones for you!
In this book we get Presley’s story and is it a doozy! She’s got a secret she’s been keeping for a while and she’s a bit down on her luck and has to rely on family for support. You definitely feel for her. Her daughter is a spunk though and I love both of their personalities!
Sebastian is just amazing! He is so patient and loveable and takes things in stride, mostly. I loved him so much!
These two had so much chemistry! They got together pretty much every summer as teenagers, but always had to say goodbye, so they have no problem rekindling what they use to have and brought the steam! I loved how their relationship grew, though there were some difficulties and twists along the way.
All the secondary characters were so great and funny and brought lots to the book!
You don’t want to miss out on this small town, second chancish, friends to loversish, single parent romance!!
I love the small town feel, the sense of community and the plight of the town against a big corporation. This book had feels, squishy feelings and some serious chemistry between the main leads. But what intrigued me the most is the Blum family and i cant wait to read their story!
4.5****
However i couldnt work out how he could have been married living with his wife and overseas for 5 years at the same time.

I was drawn in from the very beginning. I don't usually like secret pregnancy books but in this case it made total sense. With all the town gossip, I think Presley made the right choice.
Yes, I do have to say there was quite a lot of miscommunication sometimes and that made me a bit uneasy, but everything got solved in the end.
And this couple is one of those that gets back to their sizzling connection as soon as they reunite. These two together (and with Cilla) were so incredibly sweet!

All this and their town is facing an external onslaught that needs dealing with or livelihoods would be affected.
The Elvis theme threading through this is great (especially for an Elvis fan like me!). This is one of those novels that is crying out for a playlist :)

I finished Friends with Benedicts by Staci Hart and OH MY GOODNESS - I ABSOLUTELY LOOOOOOOOOOVED THIS BOOK!
Friends with Benedicts is the WOOOOOONDERFUL love story of Presley and Sebastian!
Presley is a single mom and works in a diner in Lindenbach. She knows Sebastian since high school. Both spent every summer together until they didn't any longer. Life changed them and both went their separate ways. Now that both are back in the small town... are there still any feelings left? 🤔
OMG YES!! Yes! Yes! Yes!
I DEVOURED THEIR STORY!
I loved Presley the first time I met her in Bet The Farm and when I heard that she'd get her own book I was soooo happy about it!!
Presley is such a wonderful character! She knows what she wants and loves her little daughter Priscilla unconditionally!
And then there's Sebastian.... BE STILL KY BEATING HEART! He worked for the Peace Corps, but is back in town. GOD! I loved him from the beginning as well!
I loooooooved THE CHEMISTRY between them! OMG! I GOT GOOSE BUMPS EVERYWHERE!
Awwwww! I squealed a few times while I enjoyed their love story so much!
This friends to lovers story was SOOOOOOO GOOD!!! WHOOP WHOOP!! 🤗
I can't say it often enough! I loved their whole story! All the stuff they had to deal with! Aaaaand all the other characters were brilliant!! - like the Blum sisters (Presley's cousins) OMG they're so funny!!! 🤣
FRIENDS WITH BENEDICTS IS THE PERFECT SUMMER READ!
Oh!!! And the epilogue! Perfection too!
That's it. This is my honest review with my own words. 😉

Timing is everything. And theirs usually sucks.
Sebastian and Presley are like the two sides of the magnet. When they’re near each other, their chemistry is off the racks, they usually get magnetised and fall into the pithole of having a hot summer fling. Up until five years ago, that was their modus operandi. Up until five years ago, they were just reckless kids having fun.
But five years ago they separated, with him going to Africa, and her going back home. They had no contact, but had something connecting them all along. Right up until the moment, when they were forced to come back to the small town.
I really liked Presley’s character in BET THE FARM, and as it was one of my favourite reads this year so far (that books tickles my trope fancy like you wouldn’t believe), I was glad to go back to that world – only to discover that our heroine was uprooted from California.
Sebastian was forced to come home, too, altough his motivation was linked to some family drama, his stay seemed to last longer than intended. When he gets the news about Presley, he’s looking for salvation in the romantic kind - his last relationship had come to and end- so their coming together again should be prophetic. Shouldn’t it?
I found Sebastian charming, a bit naive, and a loooot of stubbornnes came from his direction. Presley was the more pragmatic one out of the two of them – they were a bit ying and yang in this regard. She had a lot on her plate for a long time, and balancing a new/not so new fling with the potencial consequences of things never being the same again put a big burden on her shoulders. I liked that she was resilient, that she had strong female relationships, knew how to get over pettiness.
Their romance was a bit fast paced and left me questioning a few things while reading, but overall they had chemistry, banter, and the knowledge about one anothet that only former lovers could have.
But this knowledge also hindered the story in my eyes, as we were given facts and statements about feelings, but we didn’t have quite the understanding of them – I see what it meant to not have a bigger conflict in the first half of the book, and how the underlying tension brought us to the catalyst for it later… But I would have still kind of appreciated it. My only other small „problem” was that the storyline was a bit predictable. Although I have to admit it, I was kind of in a reading slump, so I appreciated the gentle guiding hand into reading romance books again, that this story provided.
Lastly, I have to mention Staci Hart’s penmanship. As always, my ARC is full of highlights of simple life lessons wrapped into words.
