Georgia: A Guide to the Cradle of Wine Hardcover – June 12, 2017

5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars 10 ratings

Recipient of the Geoffrey Roberts Award, this book delves head first into the 8,000 year-old wine traditions of the Republic of Georgia.

A storied past, this mountainous country on the Black Sea is finally getting recognition for its unique and wonderful wines and grapes including Rkatsiteli, Saperavi, Chinuri, Krakhuna, Kisi, and over 400 more. Made in both the "international method" of barrel and tank aging as well as the ancient method of terracotta pots called "kvevri", Georgia offers up a wine for everyone and delicious local dishes to accompany them. This is your complete guide to the wines, food, and people of this beautiful land.

Author and wine expert, Miquel Hudin was awarded "Best Drink Writer of 2017" by the prestigious Fortnum & Mason Awards.

Amazing book!
This book is what it says to be - a guide to the cradle of wine. The book is very informative, especially for those who are not familiar with the Georgian way of winemaking. I liked the fact that it's written laconically and is easy to read.

Wow! What an awesome book...in every way! It covers everything one needs to know while visiting Georgia. There is an emphasis on the wines, of course, but also a great deal of information regarding the culture, the food, various festivals, the history of the different regions, and more! The quality of the printing and photographs is also exceptional! For anyone traveling to Georgia THIS is the book to have!

This book about the wines of Georgia really opened my eyes up to what was available and massive history of this region. The authors really know what they're talking about and helped to explain this really foreign region very well. Highly recommended for anyone getting ready to travel to there or just if you have an interest in wine.

Fabulous, fascinating, & foremost intensely interesting. So well written I want to buy my ticket to Georgia today! Every section so full of valuable information and written in such an enjoyable style. I wasn't aware of the Kvevri or the depth of history from the area. Another great book by Miquel Hudin, now waiting for the next one.

This is an excellent book to introduce you to the food, wine and culture of Georgia. I discovered it only after I had been to Georgia. I loved reading it as a review of my trip.

I highly recommend Miquel Hudin's book on Georgia (the country) wine. This is a book for travelers rather than tourists. There is a wealth of information about food, places to go, how to get around, culture and history. I especially appreciated his tips on etiquette and his remarkable insight for the Georgian people. Mr. Hudin writes comprehensively about large and small winemakers. Many of the winemakers he talks about are young and likely to be around a long time. This gives the book value far into the future.
Anyone interested in wine, from expert to novice, will find this book a good read. The photographs are beautiful and that alone might make you want to dust off your passport. Mr. Hudin has written several other definitive books about wine regions in northeastern Spain (Montsant, Priorat, Empordà). These excellent and relatively unexplored areas are well worth visiting too. You should check them out.

This book just knocked my socks off. I think I'm a pretty normal wine drinker and so when I heard about wine from Georgia, I had no idea what to think. A friend just gave this to me and it works wonderfully as a guide to the wines and the country which honestly, I knew nothing about before reading this. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore the region!

Having recently fallen in love with all things Georgian, I was very happy to find this book about the diverse landscape that is the Georgian wine. It takes you across the country with a friendly writing style and talks to you not only about the wine but also about the lovely country in the Caucasus. Highly recommended not only as a wine book but as a thorough read on Georgia.
