This is great. Cool crafts, nice materials. Day one creates a star ornament and everything you need is provided, you just add a baking sheet, liner paper or foil and your oven.
It looks great and the crafts are nice, not too hard, not too boring.
My daughter (11) and son (10) love it!

Update: day 7 and my 6th grader still loves it. My 5th grader finds the craft instructions really hard to follow, lots (4/6) have not gone quite right for him and he’s pivoted to his own inventing, which is fine, but means the company might want to improve the instructions: he builds Lego Technik 14+ on his own!

I’ve copied the description of this product as well as the actual truth behind each bullet point they list.

“This Christmas Arts & Crafts ADVENT CALENDAR will not only provide your kids a daily arts & crafts activity for each day of the 24 days before Christmas - it will also enrich your Christmas tree and Christmas table with a variety of 24 season ornaments proudly hand made by your kids.” - a few of the items were non-seasonal colors. For example, one of the items was a Pom ornament with all pink and purples. Would not have been ideal for a boy. The item made with a napkin came in a floral, spring looking print.

“ENGAGING & INTRIGUING- 24 exciting arts & crafts creations for Christmas. Your kids will be super proud on Christmas day showing off their art!” - their art? HARDLY!! We will address this later on. However, my daughter did love the products and was happy to show them off.

“HOURS & HOURS OF PLAY- A different creation is hidden in each box.” - I wouldn’t say hours. I was able to knock out several days of crafts in under an hour (more to come on this topic).

“EASY TO DO - Includes all necessary components and a colorful manual with step-by-step and pic by pic instructions.” - FALSE ADVERTISEMENT! You need extra items for EVERY SINGLE PROJECT!!! Mainly, a hot glue gun. Nearly every project required a hot glue gun…which we did not have on hand. A couple require pine cones, and we were unable to locate ones we needed. Required a jar for one of the crafts, minimal sewing experience, etc.

“FOR EVERYONE - Arts & Crafts creations are suitable for ages 6 and above without prior experience (although some adult supervision is required for selected activities depending on age and the specific creation at hand).” - my child loves crafting and is almost 8. She’s not been able to do even the bulk of the work on any of these projects. Several of the projects I had to complete 100% on my own while she watched with sad eyes because it was beyond her means to complete it.

My child LOVED the idea of this box and is super crafty. She’s always making new projects out of old things, but this just was not the right kid. Not even half of the items you need are included and they are far too complex for ages 13 and under.

Bad execution of a good idea

I loved the idea of this advent calendar, but the execution of it is total baloney. To begin with, the description clearly states: "Includes all necessary components." This is a complete mistruth. While I expected to provide things like scissors and a glue stick, and I'm even OK with the assumption I'll have an empty toilet paper roll ready to go, but many of the crafts require items that are kind of a pain to acquire: pinecones, a decorative jar, greenery. The craft for one day is basically: "go find all this stuff we assume you have in your garden (in winter, no less) and here is a ribbon to tie around it." I am also a bit peeved to see that about half the crafts involve a hot glue gun. I chose this for my child because I am not a crafty person and was willing to pay for a box that had the ideas and the materials for some small projects. Being a non-crafty person, I do not own a glue gun. (Should I purchase one? Can I substitute with regular glue? Who knows! The step by step instructions do not provide advice on how to deal with the lack of hot glue.) They do warn that some adult supervision is necessary, but I didn't expect that the *entire* craft for several days would be using a hot glue gun, which basically means I have to do craft while the child watches. Bummer. The final disappointing straw is that the instruction booklet has a full color picture of every completed craft in a grid on the cover. In order! The whole joy behind an advent calendar like this is the surprise of what is coming each day, which is completely ruined by the cover on the instruction booklet. Overall, the best part of this product is the colorful different sized boxes everything comes in and that fit together in a neat rectangle. I'll be keeping the boxes to fill myself next year as it will be about as much work as dealing with this collection.

Would highly recommend but only gave 4 stars because there’s a few everyday items that one may or may not have around the house at any given time. **most of the crafts require a hot glue gun as well** I bought for 5 year old daughter and she can do some but I have to do many because of the hot glue gun. It is worth pointing out that there is a note inside the main box letting you know the additional items required for these crafts. Do read it before the 1st December! Although it says a hot glue gun, I had no intention of purchasing one of these and we have found a standard tube of UHU type clear glue is perfectly adequate. We had all the other items already. As other reviewers have said, the instruction book does show the items for each day, but you can choose not to look ahead as each craft finishes on a double page and it is more fun to have a surprise!

My daughter just turned 8 and has managed to do many of these by herself. We didn't do the melting plastic beads - she actually decided to make something else with the beads.

We have found this a brilliant afterschool activity and I am very likely to get her another one next year. I think it is fantastic!
