Editorial Reviews
The legendary So-Cal punk group The Offspring return with their 10th album (and first new offering since 2008), the blistering and triumphant Let The Bad Times Roll. Produced by Bob Rock, the group describes the album as "the most cathartic thing we've done. The messages might be dark, but at the end what's left is that communication is important, working through feelings is important and most of all, hope is important." CD Softpak.

There are some great gems on this album. Let the Bad Times Roll is a no-brainer, but We Never Have Sex Anymore is a quintessential Offspring song for anyone that loves songs like Want You Bad, or Spare Me The Details. As a long time fan however, the orchestral remake of Ixnay's Gone Away was chilling. In what I can only think is a direct response to the success of Weezer's OK Human, Gone Away toned down and performed by an orchestra is one of the best Offspring songs I've ever heard. I love the original, but this? This is hauntingly good. In The Hall of The Mountain King is at once my favorite and most disappointing song on the album. I love the song always have since I was a real little kid, and they're loyal to it, then that's it. I was hoping to hear a cover and/or parody not too unlike their wicked cover of Feelings, but this is just a very quick and simple instrumental cover, and it's great for what it is, I just wish they had done more with it.
The album is very strong, and if you're a long time Offspring fan, then this album is and easy buy, and you won't regret it. If you're new to The Offspring, you might still start with this album since it's current, however you'd be better served in the long run starting with either Smash, Americana, or Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace.

That said, I have to say I'm very annoyed with Amazon for not including This Is Not Utopia on the digital download, and when I try to stream it, I get an error and it won't stream either. THIS MUST BE FIXED ASAP! I won't downvote the album, because this isn't Offspring's fault, it's purely on Amazon! Buyer beware if you're thinking about getting the digital version of the album!
HOWEVER... this album is far more bang for the buck. More than half the songs are back to good old fashioned punk. Not the same as before, but great to listen to. I'm not going to go through a song by song review, but it's a great album that old fans don't have to listen to once and then toss in the CD book forever. Buy it.
