I do a lot of small ink sketches that I like to color with watercolor. It's a challenge frequently to find a paper or sketchbook with paper that will take both ink and watercolor equally well. One I found and my favorite is Arches Text Wove (renamed a while back to Velin Arches), which is used also for text printing. This paper has a bit of tooth to it, which means that most fountain pens are tough going to draw and write with. Only a broad fountain pen tip doesn't drag noticeably. But for a small sketch a broad point produces an ink line that's too unattractively thick. However, this PITT pen works very well on this toothy paper, providing a smooth, free-flowing, reliable thin line. (It also works well on smoother paper too.) And I don't have to press down hard to get a line; a light tough does it. After a brief wait for it to dry, like a minute or less, I can float in the quite wet watercolors and the waterproof ink stays put, doesn't come up a bit.
I wouldn't particularly recommend it for a lot of handwriting (to me, too thin), although I do take notes with it next to my sketches, and it's fine for that. But for extensive handwriting, I think an F or M would be better.
But I highly recommend this pen to anyone who wants a thin, waterproof ink line in drawing, whether for artwork or even mechanical drawing. It's a joy to use.
Tip feels smooth for such a fine point. Writes cleanly. Cap snaps tightly with minimal space around the tip to ensure it doesn't dry out.
Bad:
Kind of a rip for the amount of ink you get. I immediately noticed the sound of the sponge flopping around inside the body, which just seems sad, so I removed the back end to insert a wedge of paper to keep it stable. The ink sponge is disappointingly narrow. It could probably be 20% bigger. And while the tip was writing just fine, the sponge inside seemed somewhat dry, like a rollerball refill left in storage too long. I added some water to rehydrate it (I am quite the expert at this), and the ink starts to look a bit pale. So the sad reality is revealed: these pens NEVER had a good amount of ink in them. I notice some people complaining that these don't last as long as expected. They are not just dry from storage, as is the case with many rollerball refills I have restored.
This makes them kind of expensive disposable pens, even if they work well when new.
