There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
I'm missing several screws and a washer. Before you move on to the next review, pause and think about what this says about Thule's quality.
I did receive a sheared off self-tapping screw and blank key (my key on the right for reference).
What's worse is the screws are showing signs of rust from not being correctly passivated or anodized. Don't look forward to staring at my folded rack with rusting fasteners. Can't tighten some of the screws. They are either too shallow or have excess material in them. I will need to carefully untighten them with pliers as they are beginning to round a bit. I was meticulous during the assembly process.
Thule quality control needs to improve. There are numerous ways to avoid this with optical inspection, weighing fastener packs, or using a good old fashion set of eyes. I hope the lack of attention to detail is limited to these screws.
Will provide an update over the summer, but if you're looking for a reason to move on to a less expensive solution - this might be it. I know I have regrets.
BTW: Assembly instructions are an afterthought, a real mess. There a great instructions online. The box was in great condition, but hitch showed signs of wear. Pretty common when the container is not designed to prevent rubbing "hot spots". No biggy, just another example of lack of attention to detail.
Update: Went to REI and they took care of the missing hardware. The black key is not a problem. That was my fault as it's needed to remove the core once assembled. Never heard back from Thule. Reached out to them several times and nothing.

Except when you have to call Thule for support. The sequence goes like this...
1) Call them. Call is answered.
2) I'm greeted in four (? I think) languages. Slowly. I cannot bypass the "Welcome and thanks for calling Thule...Bienvenido y gracias por..." then French and maybe German or...you get the point.
3) Press 3 for customer service...And on my first call I was told 'You're caller number 6". After 20 minutes of waiting (by which point, I was caller #4), I chose the option to have them call me back (that option isn't offered 'til you've waited five minutes or so).
4) Sometime between 30 and 90 minutes later, you'll notice a missed call on your phone. No repeat call, no voicemail, no anything. Go ahead and keep waiting...it won't do you any good.
5) Call them back. "Bienvenidos..."...Wait. Caller 3. Wait. Caller 2. Wait. Caller 1. Wait. Wait. Wait. Call dropped.
6) Call back. This time don't select "customer service", select "buy a new product" and your call will be answered immediately.
7) Describe the problem...Thule tells me they can't sell me the part and to return to my retailer.
8) Call (my retailer). "Sure, we can help!" Thank god for (my retailer). And thank god I don't have to ship this thing back.
9) Drag rack back into store. Deposit it in the entryway and give it a good kick.
10) Go buy a Kuat rack?
Regular receiver locks do not work because of the indeed very nice mechanism to mount the rack to the receiver. But the Thule included lock is not up to par with the rest of the bike.
Also not up to par is the cable mount.
On one of the bicycle holders, the plastic lock mount was broken right out of the package. Not important as I am not going to use the tiny cable anyway, but should not have happened in the first place. Would be also nice if the tiny cable could be removed, if not used.
I felt that the rack is very solid. The locking devices were a nice detail, as well as no need for a retaining pin in the receiver. You just tighten up a knob, and it wedges itself in, with a safety pin hat locks into the hole from the outside.
I love the simplicity of the rack as there is no loosening knobs or pulling pins to adjust it for the bike. It is pretty simple to use. I would have paid a lot more for this rack if it had more aluminum and stainless parts. As I indicated in the vid, it would have made things less lighter, as well as less corrosive.
The rack is U.S.A. made, which is a huge selling point to me. Thule was cool enough to send most of the tools needed to assemble. The biggest weak point was the vague instructions, but I go into great detail on all parts of the assemblyprocess so even a caveman can assemble it! Enjoy!
