TOTALLY WORTH IT!!

TOTALLY WORTH IT!!
I recently direct ordered a Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded Marine Corp Operator, and although I didn't notice it when I picked it up from the dealer I later noticed at home the rear sight was off-center to the left (looking down at it, gun pointed away). And not just a little...like...2 mm of spacing on the right and 1 mm on the left. I wasn't even about to let myself try and "learn" how to shoot it like that. (Disclaimer: I own two other SA 1911's with factory-centered rear sights with no issues.)Removed the 1/16" set screw, tried the standard brass punch and hammer-- no dice. Read online if you strike tritium sights too hard the gas vials can crack and you'll lose the night sight (the "glow"). So after much reading online and product research, I bought this over everything else, including the really common, "square one" with the various little blocks.Short story: It worked flawlessly! IT DOES WORK on a SA 1911 with rear Novak adjustable sights.Long story: Tip #1 - DON'T RUSH!!!! Take the time to read the single-page instructions that come with the sight pusher. I wrapped the slide in a blue shop paper towel, taped it, and then added two strips of tape around the back of the slide and under it as shown.Tip #2 - I loosened and preset the tool as instructed (SA 1911 rear sights push out left-to-right), inserted the slide, and firmly held it in place with one hand while I used my other hand with the included allen wrench to snug everything up. SNUG is the keyword. Seriously, use TWO fingers on the end of the wrench and stop turning when your fingertips hurt or can't grip the allen wrench any more from tightening.Tip #3 - DO cut the recommended piece of credit card to go between the push block and your sight. (see photo).Tip #4 - If you're only ADJUSTING the sight (not removing entirely), LOL, put a pencil mark or something from the sight onto the slide so you can tell how much you're moving the sight. I over-pushed the sight too far and had to reverse the pusher and move it back a half a millimeter. I took the photos when I was adjusting the sight back to the left, so don't comment that I was "Doing it wrong". :PTip #5 - WATCH your slide during sight pushing! Depending on how much "padding" you wrapped around your slide, it WILL rotate slightly while you're applying torque to the push block and depending on how hard the sights are to move. Mine rotated a little, but I went slow on cranking the push block and got the sight moved. If your slide rotates too much and the sight isn't moving, reduce your "padding" or tighten the clamp and side adjusters slightly more. That's it. Hope any of that helps people who came here to look at this tool for the same reasons I did. Oh, and ZERO scratches after I was done. See photos.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very effective, no complaints.

I have often had trouble getting sights on and off. I used to use the old "hammer and punch" method, but ended up damaging components (no sh*t!). Gunsmiths are pricey, and there is only one in my area, with loooong turnaround times. So, I bought my own to install a set of adjustable night sights on my Springfield XDS. The entire XD series of pistols are infamous for hard to change sights, and it is often recommended to take them to a gunsmith. However, with this pusher, I was able to easily change out the rear sight in about 5 minutes. I put some gun oil on the sight, let it sit a couple minutes, then slowly applied pressure, backed off, applied pressure, backed off, and was able to remove the old sight in no time. The new sight went on easily, especially with the design of the tool allowing you to rest the sight on the back of the tool and use it as a guide, so it went on perfectly straight. Made it easy to make small adjustments and get the sights dead-on. VERY HAPPY with the quality, especially for the price.
