Chris voss’ insight along w tahl raz’s writing make this such an entertaining and illuminating book. It demonstrates with high stakes hostage situations how empathy and active listening can pretty much get you anywhere you want. Brilliant book and a must read.

This book is amazing. It’s an easy read, but it’s heavy in content and is so applicable to everyday life. I will definitely read it again someday to really make it saturate!

I enjoy all the different perspectives on negotiating.

Author strongly suggests if you split the different, nobody wins.
He used human hostages as examples.
Most of us in sales don’t really negotiate lives.

In my experience (over 30 years in sales and sales management) if a deal is to be made by splitting the difference, everybody wins.

The buyer gets the product they want (and will be a return customer) and the sales person can continue to make a living.

Find out what’s important to customers by asking questions and find products to fill those needs.

You can become a better sales person by reading books. I would hope hostage negotiators receive better in person training.

This book does not go into enough detail, nor does it paraphrase the lessons taught in a helpful way. It really just gives a general overview, which could be found on the cover of the original book. I highly recommend reading the full version, it's totally worth it!!
