About the authors
S. Terrell French grew up near Washington, D.C., and spent her summers running barefoot in the forest. She graduated from Harvard College and Berkeley Law, and once spent two months as a Forest Service volunteer at Misty Fiords National Monument in Alaska. She currently lives with her husband and three children in the very foggiest part of San Francisco.
OPERATION REDWOOD follows the adventures and misadventures of four children as they try to save a grove of old-growth redwoods. The book won the national 2009 Green Earth Book Award for Children's Fiction and the California Library Association's John and Patricia Beatty Award. It was also chosen by the Library of Congress as one of two children's books to represent the literary heritage of California at the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. School Library Journal calls OPERATION REDWOOD "[f]ast paced and full of fun" and SLJ blogger Betsy Bird praised it as "one of the finest children's novels of the year. . . . [A] true emotional journey full of adventure, friendship, complex morality, trust, lies, and discovery. You believe in this book and you believe in the characters."
