アメリカン・パワー&スラッシュメタルの元祖、メタル・チャーチが2人のシンガーの死を乗り越え新作を発表！

1980年結成以来、解散を挟みながらも30年以上に渡ってアメリカン・ヘヴィメタルの真の王者を守り続けるメタル・チャーチから13作目となるニューアルバムがリリース！

中心人物・カート・ヴァンダーフーフ(g)による、スラッシュ・メタルの先駆けともなったダークなリフで独自のパワーメタルサウンドを確立、1984年リリースの1stはメタリカのラーズなど後続達にも大きな影響を与えた。デヴィッド・ウェイン～マイク・ハウという稀代のシンガーを輩出し人気を博したものの1994年に一旦活動を停止、その後、カートは活動を再開させ、今回来日する現ヴィシャス・ルーマーズのロニー・マンローなどシンガーの交代を挟み、2015年には20年振りにマイク・ハウが奇跡の復帰を果たして2018年までに2枚のアルバムをリリースし再来日も果たした。2020年にはルビコン・ミュージックより『From The Vault～メタル金庫室～』をリリースして再び、黄金時代へと突入した矢先、マイク・ハウが急死、バンドは大きな痛手を受けたがカートはバンドの存続に尽力し、2023年、元マノウォーのロス・ザ・ボスのバンドのシンガーでもあったマーク・ロペスが新たに加入し待望のニューアルバム『Congregation of Annihilation』を制作しここに最高傑作が完成した！

注目のマーク・ロペスはデヴィッドとマイクを継承する素晴らしい歌唱を披露！アルバムの楽曲もまさにメタル・チャーチと呼べる、往年のファンも溜飲を下げる素晴らしい出来となった。現在のバンドはカート、マーク、そして共に2012年からカートを支えるリック・ヴァン・ザント(g)とスティーヴ・アンガー(b)、そして90年代からのW.A.S.P.のメンバーとして高い知名度を誇り、2017年からバンドに在籍するステット・ハウランド(dr)という素晴らしい布陣！日本盤には海外ボーナスに加え、日本盤ボーナス・トラックも収録！

メタルを熟知したバンドの底力が生み出すピュアなメタルに魅了されました。

最近の流行りのメタルは何か違うよな、という方におすすめの作品。

中盤のじっくり聴かせるTr.5も素晴らしい。
新ボーカルもいい仕事をしています。
ギターのメロディのセンスを高く評価します。

この傑作を引っ提げての日本公演を是非とも実現して欲しいと願わずにはいられない！！

So I thought like many after the tragic passing of the great Mike Howe (RIP) Metal Church was going to be no more? However, after a little time to reflect Kurdt and the boys are back with a new singer and a fantastic new album! New singer Marc Lopes does a phenomenal job and is a perfect fit for the bands tried and true sound! He’s got that rough and unhinged voice that most reminds me of David Wayne in his prime and fits perfectly with the new material which harkens back a little more towards the first 2 albums.

Ironically when Kurdt first announced Metal Church was going to continue on with a new singer, he said something like the new guy was going to be quite different from their past singers as he wanted a fresh start and didn’t want a clone of their previous vocalists. Hey makes sense, right? So that led me to believe they were going to choose somebody like Todd Latorre that had a more clear and soaring type voice? Which I thought might be kinda cool and interesting? After all he did that duet with Howe on a remake of ‘Fake Healer’ a few years ago which was pretty cool! However he tricked us all because Marc Lopes is exactly the kind of singer I would expect and fits the bill perfectly!?! Just kinda funny because he is not really a different style vocalist at all LOL…but I am not complaining and very glad he was the choice 😊

They do however shift the sound back to the earlier days which is a nice change of pace and makes this album sound fresh! Although I slightly prefer the Mike Howe era, the change of direction is refreshing and prevents things from getting stale after the 2 previous albums with Howe. And the guys sound really inspired here as the new songs are full of energy, well written, and passionate! Lopes gives an outstanding performance and really brings these songs to life! Really not a bad track and even the bonus tracks are quite good! It’s a great and consistent effort that makes a statement that they are back with a vengeance! Songs like ‘Another Judgment Day’ and ‘Pick a God and Pray’ are awesome crushers and set the tone immediately! ‘Children of the Lie’ and ‘Me the Nothing’ offer a few more dynamics and both are just great examples of top-notch song writing! Another noteworthy song is ‘All that we Destroy’ which balances crunching heaviness with delicate finesse perfectly like only veteran metal legends like these guys can pull off!

So glad Metal Church decided to carry on even after such a tragic set back! As a longtime fan it’s something that I won’t take for granted! While Mike Howe will be forever missed the band is in good hands with Marc Lopes! Hopefully for many more years to come! Glad to have you back boys!

Man hört den Frust über den Freitod von Mike Howe heraus. Für Metal Church ist dieses Album ein richtiges Brett geworden. Marc Lopes macht seine Sache gut und man ist gespannt was als nächstes kommt. Klare Kaufempfehlung
