Two CDs. A superb collection on it's own or as a companion volume to the recently released Reggae Power anthology, this essential set includes 34 tracks new to CD and many more that have remained unavailable for years. Soon after embarking on a career as a record producer in 1966, record retailer and jukebox businessman Karl 'J. J. ' Johnson, enjoyed a series of significant Jamaican hits with a number of local artists, notably the Rulers and Carl Dawkins. The hits continued throughout the rock steady era, with the Kingstonians and Eric Donaldson's West Indians joining Johnson's small, but popular roster of acts. These and many more feature on this, the very first compilation to focus on J. J. Johnson's pre-reggae output

This is a fantastic compilation of mostly rare ska and rocksteady tracks from the vaults of Sir J J Johnson. I'm a big ska and early reggae fan, but the large majority of these tracks were completely new to me. Some fantastic tracks by the Rulers and the Kingstonians among many others. I usually find several duff tracks and a few not-so-good ones amongst these Dr Bird compilations, but this one is all good. Thoroughly recommended!

Hats off to Doctor Bird for putting this magical music back out into the world for appreciation, this is a fantastic compilation of long lost JA rarities. If you are a fan of original Ska & Rocksteady you won’t be disappointed, chock full of absolute belters.
