Out of the box, the MSI Gaming X Trio is very silent, borderline inaudible unless using an open case and standing very close the card. Performance is on par with all other 3080s plus minus 1 or 2% and comes with a nice overclock. It's a very large card, 2.5 (or 3 slot if you use the support bracket, included), heavy, but really well built and sturdy, there is no evident sag even without the bracket. The RGB strip is very bright although the MSI logo, which is also RGB lit, is very dim in comparison. Despite reviews saying that this card comes with less power phases than other alternatives (13, which is the minimum requirement set by Nvidia), there doesn't seem to be an issue with either stability during gaming. Power draw is also on par with other alternatives, this one drawing at most 340W from the PSU during maximum load.
There are two caveats, the backplate and power connectors:
The backplate doesn't really add structural integrity to the card because 1) it's reinforced from within with metal bars and 2) despite being advertised as "graphene" it's nothing more than graphite coated plastic -which works slightly better than plastic. The backplate does have thermal pads on components, so it does serve as a heatsink of sorts, but wouldn't work as well as metal. Despite this, thermals are excellent and noise levels as well, just a 'false advertisement' kind of gimmick.
The card requires 3 power connectors instead of 2. This doesn't seem to be really necessary as there are other cards with higher power requirements which use 2 connectors and this card's power draw doesn't even outspec the GPU connectors power limits. Again, another gimmick to make it seem more powerful (more connectors=more power draw=more performance) but it fails to make a difference. Depending on your take is might look better or worse, but there is no negative impact on performance or thermals.
Overall, the card is an excellent alternative is you happen to find it in stock and at a reasonable price. Original price is around 60 USD over Founder's Edition MSRP of 700 USD, which seems like a reasonable deal for the appropiate performance, noise levels, thermals, looks and reliability, however it is unlikely to be found at that price point. Nevertheless, if you're looking for a 3080 and want to go for it despite the price, it's a great option.
