The long handle is fairly comfortable and fits well in your hand. The underside has finger grooves, while the grip is textured like sandpaper. However, its a slightly small area of texture, just enough for a firm grip but more would have been ideal. An added groove for your thumb makes a nice fit, overall. It feels really nice in your hand for sure.
The blade opens fairly well with the dual sided thumb studs. Early on with the knife it doesn't appear to open lightening fast but pretty easily. The one issue I have so far is that when you flick it by the thumb stud, or simply with your wrist too fast the liner lock seems to "stick". In other words the knife ends up being stuck open. What appears to happen is the lock, instead of sitting directly in the middle, goes to the far right and gets wedged in and required to be pried out. It seems to engage properly when I open it slowly but anytime I flip it quickly it consistently locks up like that. Again, I haven't had it that long so we'll see how it works but I do like blades that can deploy quickly and trouble free.
A lot of people probably might find this a bit large for EDC but surprisingly it wasn't that bad when I carried it. Its a bit bulkly, takes up most of your pocket but not really that uncomfortable to me. A few reviewers have mentioned with prolonged time in your pocket the gritty handle will start to wear down the inside fabric, so for that it probably only be carried occasionally, staying in my car for the most part.
So far its been a pretty sweet knife for the money.
First off--I really love this knife. I took a gamble buying a $20 knife but I liked the blade and the size, so I went for it. So far it hasn't gotten much use minus I used a 22oz framing hammer and this knife to baton wood for kindling and it held up with no problems other than some scuffing to the blade. The knife locks solid with absolutely no wiggle in the blade, which is good enough for me.
Cons?
1. The seat-belt cutter sucks and you could potentially cut yourself on it, I plan on taking a haxsaw and cutting the blade out of the opening. I buy knives with serrated blades for cutting things like rope and seatbelts anyways, so I don't really care but for someone buying a straight blade version of this knife--that could be a probem.
2. When I got this knife, although the blade was plenty sharp the tip seemed sort of blunt and rounded. So I took a filing set and a hand sharpener to the back of the blade and sharpened a slight amount of the back at the tip which thinned the steel some making it very sharp at the tip. So while the knife has retained it's shape entirely, it is now much better suited for stabbing(not that I couldn't have buried this monster in something without doing it but nit picking small qualms is what these reviews are for, right?)
Pros?
1. This knife was cheap and so far seems to be a pretty good knife. If 4 months down the road the blade goes loose, etc. then I'll change my review but for the time being it's a solid knife. Also at $20 a knife, you can use this thing to death, etc. and it's really affordable to replace it. I've got a collection of Kabar knives that sit in my room because I don't want to mess them up, this knife I can confidently alter, etc. and know I can just get another one for the price of skipping eating out one time.
2. It's got a good, thick blade. I have no idea what kind of steel it's made out of, I hope it's at least stainless with a baked on black coating but regardless this blade is big, with a nice, thick spine. Would I recommend using it as a prying tool? No BUT the blade is thick enough to where you could probably get away with reasonable prying though not ideal use of any knife.
3. The grip on this knife is absolutely world-glass. It's got finger grooves, a huge surface area and very aggressive grip tape on one side. The grip tape may wear down or come out in time but it's an easy/cheap fix to replace it with skateboard or talon gun grip tape. It also has a nice cut in flat area deeply grooves for your thumb on the back, which is good for whittling things and other intricate kinds of cutting/carving, etc.
4. The glass breaker is simple and sturdy, with a knife this big I would be fully confident that it works well though I have no spare glass to go shatter with it to test it out for certain.
5. I just want to brag on the blade one more time, this thing is THICK. The thickness of the spine runs out across almost the entire blade with the exception of the tip and the cutting edge--I'm very impressed with this blade. Also it has a nice area of aggressive, saw-tooth serrations on 40% of the blade which are wide enough to shape and sharpen as it dulls over use with an average chainsaw blade sharpening round file.
All in all, I would certainly recommend this knife. This is a man's knife, it's big, bulky and tough. It gives you the size of an average fixed-blade knife with the convenience of carrying it in your pocket. I like it well enough to buy a 2nd one to keep in a drawer just incase I lose my first one or something. I may end up getting a different knife someday for vanity reasons, i.e. I might like how a different knife looks but this knife is superb and I have no real complaints.
