When Shay Zucconi’s step-grandmother died, she left Shay a tulip farm—under two conditions.

First, Shay has to move home to the small town of Friendship, Rhode Island. Second—and most problematic since her fiancé just called off the wedding—Shay must be married within one year.

Marriage is the last thing in the world Shay wants but she’ll do anything to save the only real home she’s ever known.

Noah Barden loved Shay Zucconi back in high school. Not that he ever told her. He was too shy, too awkward, too painfully uncool to ask out the beautiful, popular girl.

A lifetime later, Noah is a single dad to his niece and has his hands full running the family business. That old crush is the farthest thing from his mind.

Until Shay returns to their hometown and turns his life upside down.

Daddy Bread Baker!
5 Stars
Daddy Bread Baker!
“The marriage was fake. The attraction to my future husband…that was all too real.”Daddy Bread Baker!!The grumpiest of fake marriage proposals ever! I loved absolutely everything about Noah and Shay’s romance, I think I smiled almost the whole time I read this book. A slow burn, small town romance full of laughs and heartache and plenty of scorching heat. Shay and Noah were unlikely high school best friends who lost touch and reconnected after Shay rolled back into town with an inheritance dilemma. While Noah may have been a little miffed that Shay never looked back after she left town, I laughed so much at how he just casually tossed a marriage proposal out there to solve Shay’s problems. I adored his awkward rambling and blushing ways, I honestly couldn’t have loved him more and once we met his little niece Gennie, I never stopped smiling, she was hilarious and was just what Shay needed to see that she was loved more than she realized.“It won’t be a Hallmark movie when you bang him. Those things never get past first base. One chaste kiss, end of story. Daddy Bread Baker won’t stop until that dough rises.”Noah may have been a grumpy hero who blushed but get him anywhere near a naked Shay and all bets were off for his dirty talking prowess. He definitely knew how to make his bread rise LOL. Shay never felt like anyone chose her but she missed all the signs that Noah had chosen her from the first moment they met and everything after was a gesture of love. Shay’s vulnerability of feeling lost and not having a plan for her life anymore was so relatable and I wanted to give her a big hug! Noah was the heart of the town, fixing everything, sponsoring everything, but what he really needed was Shay in his life again, giving him all of his wildest dreams. Overall this book was the perfect match for me, now one of my favorite books of the year!“When Noah kissed me this time, it was familiar in the best ways. I knew his lips, his tongue, his beard. I knew the taste of him. And I knew how to sink into this moment and let it feel like forever.”

So this is a reread for me. I read this book in December of 2022 and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. It easily became my #1 favorite book of all time with its small town farm charm. I wanted to reread it since I recommended it to someone recently and wanted to see if I still loved it to pieces. News flash: I do!

Everything about this book is just so sweet. I fell in love with Gennie, who is a spit-fire swashbuckler six-year-old who keeps Noah and Shay on their toes. I also fell in love with the progression of Noah and Shay’s relationship. It wasn’t fast by any means, and I loved that.

Some people say that this book drags and could be shorter, but I found myself loving every detail of this book. Every meandering moment of it. It wasn’t a love story, but a life story. We got to watch Shay build herself anew and Noah learn what it is to have someone to share life with. They got off on the wrong foot and ended up fake marrying eachother once they became friends, so that brought out other issues further along the line. I enjoyed seeing how they fell into eachothers love more and more and figuring out what that meant for them.

All in all, this book is enchanting. Noah is a grumpy brute, but a sweet, educated, and thoughtful grumpy brute. Shay may be self conscious and not think super highly of herself, but she never hesitated to tell everyone how great and important they were to her. And bless Gennie’s heart, cause she was the real MVP in the quest of Noah and Shay’s love. Every character this book was so well constructed and developed that I felt like I was a part of the town of Freindship, Rhode Island.

I’m not one for hallmark movies, but if this was a hallmark movie, I would watch it until the end of time. Thank you Kate Canterbary for writing such a magical story full of love, friendship, and new jammy beginnings♥️🍓

A super sweet and detailed story. It was just the perfect mix of love story and tiny bit of drama. Adore that we didn’t have a big break up or drama to pull them apart.
Gennie was a great side character!

What a sweet, sweet love story. Loved all of the characters and the plots. It is' always amazing how much hurt people have to go through in life, before their "stars" align and they find happiness. Great story.

The second half very much saved the book for me because it was pretty repetitive in the beginning. I would have liked it a lot more if there was more focus on Noah’s mom/ Eve and less focus on the “pudding incident” that got brought up 10 times too many.

*Audiobook Review*

This book surprised me. It was more then meets the eye or ear in this case. Shay has some serious abandonment issues and you can’t really blame her for them yet it’s frustrating that she can’t see clearly what’s right in front of her. In the same sense you can’t really blame her for that either because Noah has kept his feelings for her a secret for far to long. As frustrating as both characters can be at times you are still able to understand them and even relate to them. Noah’s niece Gennie often stole the whole book with her pirate love and her colorful use of swear words. But even she was a little layered character that you couldn’t help but feel for. There was definitely growth throughout the book for Noah and Shay which I always enjoy in a good book. As for the spice wow!! Damnnn Noah I’m feeling hot hot hot up in here and it was made so much better by the narrators…

Jason Clarke and Kit Swann just owned my ears in this book. I don’t think that anyone does that sexy growly voice better the Jason holy heck!! Listen I know it’s not brand new information for any fan of his but dang he has a sexy voice. but beyond that you can just tell he gives his all to these characters. And Kit Swann I feel the same about. They are both a joy to listen to and they did a fantastic job with this one.

I really enjoyed this listen. It was funny, swoony, steamy, It was well written with enjoyable characters and fantastic narration. An overall great romance!

I wanted to love this book and give it 5 stars, but I can’t really do that and be truthful. This is my first book by Kate Canterbury and I really enjoyed most of the book. Shay inherits her step-grandmothers farm in the country but has to be married within a year to keep it. It turns out the hunky farmer next door is none other than her best friend from high school who she hasn’t seen in years. He’s now a prosperous farmer with multiple operations and employees and is the guardian to his cute but troubled 6 yo niece who cusses like a sailor and acts like a pirate. He was an ugly duckling in high school with a huge crush on Shay that he never got over. You can see where this plot is going but it didn’t feel trite. Shay is a hot mess but great in so many ways and I was definitely rooting for her. Gennie is a 6 yo pirate and I loved her personality, although she seemed to talk too maturely and was given too-adult duties for a 6 yo. Maybe 8 yo would have been more realistic? But I was willing to overlook that and go with it as she was so unique and enjoyable. I loved Noah but struggled with his personality inconsistencies - one minute he’s too shy and tongue twisted to speak to Shay, the next minute he’s into rough sex and dominating her in bed? That never added up to me. Either make him a bit more assertive around her in everyday conversations, or have him be more sweet and gentle in the bedroom. The Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde routine didn’t work for me, and I really really wanted to love all sides to Noah. What a great guy! I also thought the lack of openness with each other went on too long and made the book drag with repetition. Will somebody please step up and finally be honest with the other?! I understood the conflict but I was past ready for it to be over by the end. I found the farm operations very interesting and they made a great backdrop for this story! I never got tired of the talk of goats, bread baking, jam experiments, etc. The rescue dogs had the best names!! Thank you for proper grammar, spelling, and editing. I appreciate the professionalism and respect for your readers. Anyway, I liked the book a lot, but had to hold back a star and maybe a little more for the issues I’ve already mentioned. I hope Kate will give us books about the best friend Jaime or the odd character Christiane. They made great secondary characters! Don’t let my one star hold you back - this book was very enjoyable!
