Product Description
Pandemic: The Cure, a dice-based version of the popular Pandemic board game, sets up in less than a minute and plays in 30 minutes. As in the board game, four diseases threaten the world and it's up to your team to save humanity. You and your team must keep the world's hotspots in check before they break out of control, while researching cures to the four plagues. Players roll dice each turn to determine the actions available to them. They can fly and sail between the six major population centers of the world, treat disease in their current region, collect samples for further study, and exchange knowledge to help them in their goal of discovering cures. Each player takes on a different role that has its own unique set of dice and abilities - and players must take advantage of their specializations if they are to have any hope of winning the game. The Dispatcher, for example, can spend dice to fly others around the board, while the Medic is particularly adept at treating disease. Players can roll their dice as often as they like, but the more times they re-roll for the perfect turn, the more likely the next epidemic will occur. At the end of each turn, new "infection dice" are rolled to determine the type and location of newly infected populations. If any region on the board is infected with more than three dice of a given color, an outbreak occurs, spreading disease into an adjacent region. If too many outbreaks take place, too many people get infected, or the rate of infection gets too high, all the players lose. If, however, the players can discover the cures to the four diseases, they all win and humanity is saved!.

Pandemic: The Cure is a stand-alone, dice-based version of classic cooperative Pandemic board game. Just like the original, you win or lose together as a team. |
The results of dice rolls will determine everything in the game, from the actions that you can take to the behavior of diseases as they spread throughout the world. |

Take on different roles like the Dispatcher, Containment Specialist, or the Medic. Each role has their own set of dice and an ability that is crucial in saving the world. |
At the end of each turn, new infection dice are rolled to determine where the disease spreads and what form it takes. If any population exceeds three dice of one type, an outbreak occurs. |
If too many people are infected, too many outbreaks take place, or the infection rate gets too high, your team fails in the mission. If you’re able to find the cures for the four different diseases, you win and save humanity. |

I also love the wide variability in complexity. This one scales in difficulty depending on where you start out on the infection rate and outbreak tracks. There's still some stress involved on the easier settings, but they're generally easy to beat. Perfect when playing with kids or new/light gamers. Once you master the intro/easy levels you can challenge yourself - it can become increasingly difficult to beat on harder settings.
Overall, everything pulls together really well in this version of the game. The theme still comes across strong - maybe even better. The dice don't feel any more luck-based than the cards did. Actually, I sometimes feel like I have more control and am less at the mercy of luck. Small footprint makes this easy to take to work or when traveling. It's easier to teach to new players and seems to be easier for them to get into playing. All in all, I have nothing to complain about and highly recommend this to anyone interested in the Pandemic series.
Overall this is a good game and a good experience, ook out for the expansion that adds a good amount of game to it.
I absolutely love this game, and I think it's a staple for any coop lover. However, there are two downsides to the game that I like to warn people about:
1) It's VERY luck driven. Unlike the original Pandemic where you cure diseases by playing card sets, you have to collect dice and then roll them to hit a certain threshold. We've had games where we weren't able to roll successful saves against crazy odds, including one time where we rolled 13 or 14 1s out of 18 total dice to lose the game. If a few really bad rolls making you lose the occasional game will drive you crazy, this is not the game for you.
2) I find the expansion basically mandatory, so I'd recommend getting it too if you choose to buy this one. The mutant dice are a very fun twist, and it adds my personal favorite roles to play in the game.
Highly recommended, as long as you understand that this is a dice game with a ton of randomness, and sometimes there isn't anything you can do about it!
As with Pandemic, we failed the first time we played, then succeeded the second time. We haven't played enough to judge replayability - will it get to be too predictable? Not sure.
The only flaw I can name: The game is similar enough to Pandemic that I think playing one will preclude wanting to play the other anytime soon.
I wouldn't call it a flaw, but it would be nice to have the manual small enough to fit in the dice bag, as well - more pages, but smaller ones, and it might be possible. Or possibly just a web printable quick reference guide that can fit in that format?

La mecánica de dados del juego lo hace muy emocionante. En dos días lo hemos jugado más de 10 veces.
Do not be overwhelmed with the many dice in the box. Different colours, each colour its own pips and each ‘technical’ role (player) have their own dice to roll. You roll your dice, to get actions: Treat disease dice, get to the right location, get samples, take dice out of the treatment center. Unlike the original Pandemic, in The Cure the actions you can take are determined by what action faces show up on your role's dice: If you roll airplanes, you can travel all around the world but what will you be able to do when you get there? Get samples, but you need disease dice in the treatment center to sample! You need treatments, which lets you put disease dice into the treatment center, and you must be where the virus is endemic!
The beauty here is that you don't get stuck with what you rolled. You can re-roll as many dice, as many times as you want, Remember though, 5 of your 6 dice faces are helpful actions but 1 is ‘Biohazard’. If you roll a Biohazard, you miss out on getting to use that dice for the rest of your turn and it advances the infection rate, causes epidemics and more. So do you re-roll and try to get a sample, risking the Biohazard, or do you use whatever action is already up? If you re-roll, how many times will you re-roll? Once? Twice? These choices are what make this game fun!
Each player gets unique coloured dice depending on their role. The Medic has special dice faces that are good at treating diseases while the Scientist has a higher probability of rolling samples AND only needs 11 or more to cure a disease on a Roll for a Cure. The Dispatcher lets you move people around the board more easily, though the board is much smaller than the original game with 6 regions. Cooperative games like this work well.
I love the linen finish and the art on the cards. The event cards are like the original Pandemic and the role cards are like ID badges. The dice all seem to be of good quality. You also get a cloth bag and location disks that are nice. The central score tracker it is very useful for tracking info, as a place for region disks, as a treatment center area.
The rulebook logical, has examples and is well written: An easy game to learn from the rulebook. The back page even has clarifications on some specific role and event cards. Familiarity with the original Pandemic helps but is not needed.
Obviously there is a lot of luck in this DICE game. You have the luck of the action roll, the way disease dice come out on the board, and Rolling for a Cure. The skill part really comes in working together, leaning into the strengths of your role, and taking educated risks based on probabilities. Normally if you get some really bad rolls and everything crashes and burns, it's short enough and easy enough to set up (~3 minutes) that you can just play again! I do miss the big world map, but I get more tension from the rolls and the overall fun crammed into a 30 minute is beter than the original game of 'Pandemic', good as I think that game still is.
This is alot of game for the price: There is a "let's play it again!" quality and fun .
