Side effects:
- I feel thirsty all the time -- I crave my iodine water.
- I go to the bathroom ALL the time. ---i guess i'm flushing out toxins......who knows, i feel better so i'm not stopping
- INCREASED ENERGY
- Brain fog disappeared
- Internal motivation
- I'm awake to enjoy life.
You only have one life to live.... it's short at best. ..... Live life to the fullest. You will come across many naysayers in your journey towards health. Say Nay to the naysayers and do what you feel is best for your body. YOU are the one who has to live in your own body.
So I ordered the single bottle about 4 weeks ago, and started with a very small amount daily in grape juice. My initial dose was only 5 drops. I wanted to end up at 50 mg (about 20 drops of the 2% solution) and ramped up my dosage quickly, I was at 50 mg (Iodine) within a matter of 5 days. After about 2 weeks i switched from grape juice to orange juice. I couldn't taste the iodine in either of those juices.
After about 2 weeks using the OJ, I realized that I might be better off not putting into a citric juice due to reports that citric acid does something to the iodine (not sure but I figure I want max benefit so I won't take any chances). I went to just water. So then about 3 weeks ago I went from 50 mg to 100 mg (40 drops of the 2%).
So what's happening? I can happily report that my body's reaction has been nothing less than amazing. Within a few days on 50 mg, I became much more energetic and mentally clear-headed. I, like so many of my fellow Americans, have become sluggish and foggy-brained over the past 20 years (i'm 58). Please understand that this iodine supplementation is the 'next' item in a series of things I have been doing for the past year or so (more on those other items later).
I have felt more 'non-fatigued' in the past month than I have for my entire life (when I was a medic in the Army back in the late 70s, one of our pilots told me that I was the most tired young man he had ever known). So I won't belabor the point.....but will just leave it at 'astounding'.
So why do I take it? I learned in my research that a. we don't get enough iodine for our thyroid (primarily) and other (secondarily) glands. And to make matters worse, our constant exposure to the other halogens (Fluorine, Bromine, and Chlorine) creates a situation where those other halogens attach themselves to our 'iodine receptors', effectively replacing a necessary mineral with a toxic mineral.
IMPORTANT NOTE: as you will see in other reviews and on various websites, additional iodine alone is not going to give you great results....I probably don't have to complete story, but I can say that you need to look at your intake of the Vitamin B complex, Magnesium, and Selenium. It seems that these are important in the thyroid gland's ability to actually USE the iodine.
Additionally, I understand (and have been taking) that an unrefined sea salt (I bough Real Salt on Amazon) is helpful to keep the detox effects of freeing all the bad halogens into the bloodstream. I have had 2 episodes of detox symptoms. The first was about 5 days after going to 100 mg and on a 1-10 scale (10 being worst symptoms) I'd rate those 2 days as about a 6 or 7 in terms of lethargy/sluggishness. Then about a week later I had a 1 day detox symptoms event and that would rate maybe a 4 (not too bad).
So my next big question is, 'what about my excess weight'? I need to lose a lot! Like 70 pounds. I want to see what happens naturally with what I think will be an increased metabolism coupled with a decreasing appetite. Give me 6 months and I'll report back.
Other supplements: Garden of Life organic fiber, GoL Code multi for men wiser than 50, Amazing Grass superfood, a one bottle use of dessicated bovine thyroid tissue, Kyolic garlic, 1 G of Vit C, 1 tsp Real Salt daily in warm water plus add'l amount sprinkled on my food, Resveterol (sp), and CoQ10. I try and drink lots of H20.
Overall I would highly recommend that you consider supplementing with iodine....I like the 40 drops per day....will probably continue with that 4 at least 3 months, but at some point will probably drop it to 20 drops per day.
And oh, one more thing....I tell EVERY ONE I know or see or sit next to on flights about Iodine and Dr. Brownstein. Now I've also told you! :)
**************************UDPATE ON DECEMBER 27, 2013*****************************
Wow! I can't believe it's been 3 months since I first started my 2 drops per day of Lougals 2% Solution. As last reported daily intake was 100 mg, I upped it to 150 mg (60 drops) in early December.
I feel that I have done all the mega dosing that I need to do. I am going to start dropping my dosage by 10 drops a day once a week. So I'll drop to 50, then 40, 30, and finally end up at 20 drops per day. I will do that for 3 months and then evaluate how it's done for me. I will keep the other supplements mentioned in my original review as they are.
So how am I doing? Well, my energy level has remained strong outside of the times when I feel I am detoxing. They've not lasted more than a day, maybe two, except for my most recent one (which just ended upon waking up this morning) and it lasted about a week. So I just made sure I did salt water (1 tsp RealSalt) daily and 3 grams of Vitamin C. I was glad that it was over.
So all day today was spent running around south Florida purchasing and registering a utility trailer, buying 2 ten foot kayaks, and getting a trailer hitch installed on a car. I've actually got the energy, enthusiasm, and desire to get out on some of our beautiful FL waterways and paddle up and down the manatee zones. Bottom line....it has really improved my base energy level. Even when I don't feel that great, I still am more prone to do more than I would ever have normally done in the recent past. I'm speaking of activities.
Weight loss...that's an area that hasn't shown any signs of activity. I am not watching my diet that well, maybe you could say moderately watching it. I read somewhere a week or two ago that it can take up to 5 years for the thyroid to regain it's optimum function after starting iodine therapy. So for me I'm looking at a one year and a two year evaluation on how it's doing in this area.
So tomorrow I'll be happy to drop my dosage to 50 drops. I'll try and update this post again in April. In the meantime, make sure to g o o g l e dr. brownstein - iodine - and he's got two different YT vids...both are just over an hour long, both worth watching in spite of some material being duplicated.
His recommendation is 25-30 mg per day.
2 drops are about 5.0 mg of iodine/iodide. One full dropper is 12 drops of iodine so that is my daily dose (30mg). I put the full dropper in 16 oz of water. I have seen others state that putting drops on your skin is another method of getting iodine into your body. That is simply not true (follow Dr. Brownstein).
The USA RDA is totally false. Their recommendation is significantly less than what is needed to achieve benefits while eating a standard American diet or even a carnivore diet. 30mg per day is not a level that will cause any adverse health issues. Your body needs it, our soil and food don't have enough, so supplement!

Flavor - It's iodine. Give me a break. I am not in it for the taste. I dilute a drop in two liters of water, but I still taste it. It's not horrible, but I am taking this for health, not taste.
Ease of use - the bottle is difficult to open. I use lineman's pliers to twist off the screw top cap of the bottle. Just keep in mind it is a little bottle and you probably need some kind of grip tool to unscrew the top. The top is actually a squeeze dropper for getting a drop of iodine dose. So you don't want to damage the top, you need to get it unscrewed carefully.
Helps keep my mind focused and eliminates brain fog
