The side pockets hold a lot, including an iPhone 14 and many snack bars.
The only thing I wish it had is a small inside pocket for securing credit cards, ID, etc.
The side pockets hold a lot, including an iPhone 14 and many snack bars.
The only thing I wish it had is a small inside pocket for securing credit cards, ID, etc.
It was expensive but worth it to replace an older lumber back I had that was not quite as sturdy. Highly recommend this pack for travel.
Pros:
1. Hugs every curve!
2. One of the most comfortable lumbar packs and I own nearly 20 various brands and colors no kidding, from Cotopaxi to Evoc to Lowe Alpine to Kipling!
3. Once you learn to pack everything into a lumbar pack you will loathe backpacks!
4. Keeps back dry vs backpack, even the Osprey backpacks don't fully ventilate the back in hot humid no-wind still-air climates
5. Nice side wing pockets
6. Lip on zipper is facing the correct direction, many brands don't think about user opening the zipper from their perspective.
7. Double zipper tabs to main section
8. Ripstop nylon prevents snags and tearing when commuting through brush and forest foliage.
9. Compression straps double up as a hanger for a rain parka to dry or a thin wind jacket when not in use. It can also secure a bicycle helmet.
10. VERY good construction and workmanship, perfect international lifetime warranty/guarantee.
Cons:
1. Way too bulky profile protrudes too far out when fully packed, not aerodynamic when speed is crucial be it when running or biking or hiking on inclines. Compare with Lowe Alpine Nijmegen 6L which has similar capacity and features AND comes with 2 easy clean bottles.
2. Strange loading. Not balanced or I didn't pack right, top seems heavy and tends to want to keel over backwards, not snug for the belt shape and dimensions. Maybe the wing needs to be broader? Or the belt positioned higher? Or need I be taller? I'm only 5'5" and borderline M/L in women Osprey backpacks.
3. Lack of inside organisation, not really suitable for outdoors like mountain biking or trail runs where you'd need to keep bike tools and bug sprays upright. This means your handy pump, lubricant, wrench, bug spray, wound spray etc all lie horizontally at the bottom and you will need to fish them out. In an emergency? No thanks! They could go into the side pockets but they don't curve around my waist. If pockets are not possible, consider a strip of elastic band across the inside of main section with strategic stitching intervals to separate the tools. Evoc Hip Pack Pro 3L though not for bottles has the best organization please learn from that.
4. This Osprey Tempest 6 has 2 zippered sections separated by mesh with 0 pockets inside. Idk what's the purpose of the mesh separator when all other brands use fabric. Stray crumbs from snacks or dirt from tools in one pocket will go into the next making it more difficult to clean out.
5. Narrow bottle pockets fit only certain brands of bottles. The standard bike bottle will fit but not much wider. Each pocket has an internal elastic cord very strange impractical design. While standard bike bottles will easily go in and out of, just a bit wider ones will fight with the cord to insert. Osprey please have a look at Lowe Alpine's design it is perfect. Their cord doesn't go internally at all but attaches to the top of pocket and stretches to effectively secure the top of the bottle.
6. No reflective print
7. No attachment for blinker lights unlike Osprey packs
8. Top handle loop is sewn to the middle of the pack on top rather than at the back, making it non-functional to hang on walls or back of doors of toilets/showers etc.
9. Stiff zippers classic to Osprey packs.
10. Front zipper keeps catching on the leash of the key clip and it drives me batty. Please fix this!
I would recommend this pack for Osprey fans who aren't after a technical outdoor pack but after extra storage for easy access. If you're after a technical purposeful lumbar pack, look elsewhere.
