This book gave me goosebumps. I never thought i would enjoy reading something like this. It was so beautifuly written. Terrifying situations are written so gracefully.
This book revolves around 4 stories. 4 Stories 4 differnt situations and 1 Virus. This book is about how different familys wear tear apart and yet had to continue with their life.
A Journalist, A Doctor, A Grandson and A husband. Story of them and how painful it is for them to continue with their life.
Snipet of what is out there. How difficult it is for those who don't have privilege. How are doctors are working 24*7 to protect the citizens. How journalist are working constantly to give us the latest news.
This book involves the four most affected countries from this pandemic and four representatives from each of them who have symbolised the four most sensitive perspective of this pandemic that is journalism, daily wage labour, family life and Healing patients along with humanity. This includes a journalist whose attempt at being humane is debarred by his senior and tough journalists, a daily wage earner boy who losses his grandfather and also his job and braves through the situation of the pandemic, a doctor who battles the virus in her hospital but constantly suffers with the question of saving her family and a dejected husband who losses her pregnant wife to the virus. This characters ironically has brought out this very fact that they have been the most confident frontline warrior of the pandemic who have saved us by braving us seat at home. This book has made me understand that whatever it takes keeping a firm ground in a never before seen situation indeed makes a man perfect in their field.
All said and done, this book is a must read for all who wants to explore the depths of morality, all the perspectives of the human life and what it takes to battle out exigencies being in the frontline and be the battalion heroes.
I would like to extend all my best wishes for the author's future endeavours.
I read it in one go. Couldn't bring myself to even take a break. Yash has a way with words, like every great writer his storytelling skills are such that everything plays in front of your mind as if you are a part of the book. I am definitely going to buy the hardcopy too. I would love to have it in my shelf. Loved it 💛
Pandemic 2020 is a fictional account of the Novel Coronavirus pandemic which has upset the world entirely, and is still raging on at this moment. I had not considered to document the horrors of this year on my blog, but this book review has convinced me that it is important for the future to know about it all. The context of the book is no doubt good, but to me the narration was too weak. Yet, I will start with the positive aspects of the book.
The first reason why I liked reading Pandemic 2020 was the backdrop. And like every other reader, I was interested in the World's First Fictional Novel On The Novel Corona Virus Outbreak. We are already experiencing firsthand the havoc being wrecked by this virus in our every day life. Pandemic 2020 widens the horizon by introducing four different characters from four different countries — India, US, China, and Italy. Next up, the themes. Pandemic 2020 explores the very things which we are going through every single day — crisis, survival, despair. Since the events of the book are inspired by the Novel Coronavirus pandemic, I am not in the position to comment on the same. Yes, it is an integral part of a plot which is actually a fictional account of the pandemic. Yet, I am not fit to measure the historical accuracy of the same. This applies to the third point as well — characterisation. Since I have only experienced the pandemic as a college student waiting to get her degree, I have not been on the frontline of the crisis — neither as a traveller, a journalist, a doctor, nor as an underprivileged individual.
Pandemic 2020 had one major flaw, and that is the language. When a book has an omnipresent or a third-person narrator, the author does not have to worry about the kind of linguistic system he or she must implement for the narrator. However, when there are over two narrators involved in the plot, the writer must be very careful about the inflections, mannerisms and the various nuances influenced by language. Pandemic 2020 seemed to have no such differences among its four narrators. These four individuals are from four different countries, cultures, and societies altogether. So it is virtually impossible for one person's manner of speech to be the same as the other's. In other words, the accent seemed alike for all four narrators in most parts of the book. This brought in a kind of homogeneity in the narrative voices, not the kind of thing you expect in book which has multiple narrators.
I believe it is with errors and experience that we learn and become wiser, whether in science or literature. I am sure the author is capable of welcoming new ideas and perspectives in his later works, and I will be looking forward to them. I convey best regards to the author for his future endeavours.
