CROSSING MUDDY WATERS is the very essence of what JOHN HIATT is as a musician. He tends to BE the essence of his music and actually lives the kind of music he plays. At least it seems that way to me, the man is a really genuine individual and the songs that he writes and plays are just as genuine as he is himself. CROSSING MUDDY WATERS is a great example of this, and he really does seem to be involved with every song that he plays on this LP. I play this disc almost every day because of this involvement by HIATT and love to relax and listen to every song on the disc. I find it a great way to relax in the late afternoon.
If you have discovered Mr Hiatt through his other albums and like what you've heard you will not be disappointed. This is a thoughtful almost introspective overview of acoustic delta blues redefined through his unique lens - it's an excellent album and repays repeated plays. While I find some of John Hiatt's albums bombastic this is a beautiful, at times funny and tender piece of work - I recommend it highly.
