Works great, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 ...

Works great, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 ...
Works great, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for 2 reasons.1) setup. The setup should be simple if you follow the steps but the connection to WiFi took me longer than I'd like to admit. I know nothing about networks bit I was able to figure it out. When you are setting it up to WiFi there are 2 options, manual and auto. I chose auto as the instructions said to do, I chose my wifi name and entered the password. The unit restarted as it said it would but I got nothing. Instructions said to try again so I started over (from the beginning) 3 more time. Then I tried manual mode and it turns out my security settings were different than the default so now I was up and running.2) compatibility. I have 2 door openers from 2 manufacturers. The old one worked no problem but the Chamberlain opener didn't. I went online to the compatibility checker and it showed how to wire it but it still didn't work. So I went to Google and found out my door had something called security 2.0. my only option was to solder the wires onto the button on the wall button to bypass the security feature (pics attached). That's something that should be made known on the compatibility checker. I wasted a lot of time figuring that out.All in all, after the setup it works great but what should have been a 20 min project turned into a 2 day affair.

The system works great! There are a few points that I would like to point out for installation.

1. Each controller will handle up to three doors or gates but you can add multiple controllers. I have 5 garage doors to control. I needed two controllers and three extra door sensors since each controller comes with one sensor.

You must switch between controllers in the app to control each group of doors. The app does remember the last used controller.

2. The app will always default to Door #1 and you must swipe left or right to control Door #2 or #3. Therefore if there is one particular door that you use most, make that door #1. Each door can be labeled with a unique name and the name is what you will see in the app. I use the middle door mainly and I had to go back and rewire the middle door to the #1 terminal so that it would always show up as the default door and I did not need to swipe to select it.

Name your controller the PERMANENT name that you want to call it initially. Once it is named, it does not appear that it can be changed. The default name is "home" and that may be fine for the majority of cases.

3. It is not clear how to control the doors from a computer. That is done by entering a specific URL:
https:// then 10 character controller ID then dot my-gogogate dot com with no spaces.

Using that URL and logging in will allow you to control the doors from any browser.

The wireless sensors work extremely well. The furthest sensor is 30 feet away from the controller and it picks up fine.

The battery level of each sensor displays in the app so you will know when it is low.

The temperature at each sensor also displays in the app in both Celsius and Fahrenheit in one-tenth of a degree resolution. The temperature at each door sensor can vary slightly but it appears to be quite accurate.

The system also logs each opening and closing of the doors. Thus, when you select a door, at the bottom you can scroll through the times the door was opened and closed.

There will be a green icon for when the door was opened and a red icon for when the door was closed. The opening and closings are logged regardless of whether you use the gogogate system to open and close the door. So if you use the garage door push button or if you use the car's remote control it will still log each time the door was opened and closed regardless of what was used to open or close the door. It logs the opening and closing to each one minute in 24hr time and does not log seconds.

You can add up to 10 users at no additional cost. It allows you to schedule a user to be able to open the door at a specific time window each day of the week. I have a cleaning lady who comes on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month. It does not allow me to select the first or third Friday, I would have to select all Fridays and schedule the time window when she arrives.

I can also give my children access to a controller and they can use their phones to enter and leave at any time. The scheduling controls each individual controller and you can select individual doors and since I have 3 doors on One controller and two doors on the other controller, I only have to give remote access to One controller if they only need to use a certain set of doors. The vast majority will only need one controller so this is a moot point for most installations.

The installation instructions are also some of the best that I have ever seen. Although the installation of the system is not necessarily easy, the step by step instructions makes it as simple as possible. The instructions are not on paper but you go to the gogogate website and follow the instructions on the screen.

You generally will need two devices to install the system. Either two phones or a phone and a computer such as a pad or a laptop. Although you could install the system with just a phone the back and forth would be a bigger hassle.

Overall, I rate the system as awesome and I have not had a single mishap or failure and I have had the system installed now for over a month. I will update this review if anything changes.

I ended up buying one of these with two sensors. It is the only thing that apparently works for automation with two Sommer garage door openers I purchased. Should have just returned the openers. The Gogogate seems to work once set up. The thing looks stupid but, that’s just my opinion. Utility devices should come in nondescript square boxes. Easy to mount and out of the way. There are a punch of videos out there for setting up and using these. What I found was I ended up in automation hell trying to use this. The pairing and switching back and forth between WiFi networks isn’t that smooth but, works. There is a punch of talk about working with an SD to set this up. That’s bad news. I did this for automation. The IOS app works. It isn’t that impressive and is very ackward to setup. Designed on an iPhone it is clunky and does work well on an iPad. Wanted to add it to an Amazon Echo (Alexa). Sounds simple and supposed to work but, what a nightmare. It requires IFTTT to work with Alexa, they can’t do their own skills. I’m not a fan of IFTTT, to much like a programmers tool box. It is something else in this case I have too add, manage and deal with to get what I want and seems to be sprinkling more of my personal information in yet another place in the “Cloud”. I have to register my Gogogate with someone else out there. If Gogogate needs or wants to use this then they need to find a way to do it for me. Don’t give me instructions for getting started using something that isn’t theirs and that leaves me hanging to get through to use their stuff. they have a video for “getting started” with the “required” IFTTT part. Your on your own again because they don’t help past that but, it is required by them. The video also doesn’t Work very well on an iPad. You will go blind. But, it’s Youtube so stop and go register and load go load Another app. This is to much stuff and too many things to set up, add, manage and deal with, long term. Just to automate the use of a garage door. And there are to many parts in the middle to break. I could spend half a day setting up and dealing with this stuff. Want me to buy and use your stuff. I want Gogogate to work with Alexa. Don’t want to know about, deal with or do 20 things in the middle. That’s for you.
