Unless you love the weird added flavors of stevia and pre-biotic stuff, stick with this. It's a pure product, dissolves well, and is very similar to sugar in flavor and texture.
My only desire, is that this would come in packets so I could have it on me all the time. The 5-pound bag is a great value.
I have also tried xylitol, but that eventually bothers my stomach, and there's a strange aftertaste. Not so with erythritol!
Takes a bit longer to dissolve..larger crystals than sugar, but if the liquid is hot - coffee, tea, etc. - it's basically like sugar. I've taste-tested this with friends, my wife..and all say it's 'pretty good,' which to me translates to 'it doesn't taste like the other crappy artificial sweeteners.'
Oh..and ZERO carbohydrates! This will not raise or lower blood glucose. It is metabolized through the kidneys... you pee it out...and it never reaches the colon. It does not promote the growth or death of any gut bacteria...so NO stomach issues!
I used to use about 1 to 2 teaspoons of sugar in coffee. I use about 2 teaspoons of this, and it's basically the same taste!
I also buy bulk bottles of unsweetened black tea, then add 2-3 teaspoons of this to the bottle, cover, and shake it up. Takes a few seconds to completely dissolve, but once it's done...I have sweetened tea with zero carbs that doesn't taste like Flintstones chewable vitamins!
If you're concerned, give it a try. Test your glucose before and after. Nothing should change, and no more weird aftertastes...or chemical flavors...or other awful things. Just...using sugar again without the bad parts!
I have tried Swerve. It's good, but...weird aftertaste...some of the stuff sticks to my tongue. Swerve adds 'natural flavors' and 'oligosaccharides' that act as a prebiotic. Uhm..I do NOT want anything to help my gut bacteria. Swerve is basically 99% erythritol with some additions. This is 100% pure erythritol! It's the way to go!
I buy the 2.5 lb bag because I use it enough to warrant buying more. This doesn't leave a nasty aftertaste like most other products. It looks, feels, blends and tastes like real sugar.... to the point I wonder if I'm cheating. It's that good.
If you are looking for a good sugar substitute other than what you can pick up average grocery store. PLEASE try this stuff first! Don't listen to the negative reviews about diarrhea and stomach pain and bad taste. Everyone is different and doesn't make it a bad product. I never had such issues and our taste buds are all different. The recrystalizing....meh maybe, i just started mixing it better and haven't noticed any problems since. I make lots of whipped cream (where I noticed crystalizing) but no problems now. Don't know what's changed other than I blend it more and add the sugar earlier. I think its pretty equal parts by comparison (1tbs erythritol = 1tbs sugar) but my taste buds are not fans of overly sweet. Ya know?

Allows you the option to have some sweet stuff while staying in ketosis.
Less sweet than sugar, so even less chance of triggering an insulin response.
One thing I find about Erythritol flavour is there's more of a cooling effect than sugar when it melts in your mouth.
Depending on what u use it in, you can notice a subtle impact on the flavour profile of what you're making. There's a similar effect of using mint without any of the mint flavour. It's difficult to describe really.
Nothing over powering, just something to be aware of. This goes for any Erythritol, not just this brand.
If I were to choose any Erythritol again, it would be this one!
Omg. So glad I did. Won't lie, it's expensive and you have to use a little more of it than sugar for the same level of sweetness. But it works and has no weirdness in taste at all. You just have to use more. But hey, I'll live with it for the fact it gets me off the sugar (I have insulin resistance so sugar is really not good) and away from gross tasting sweeteners. Cannot believe I didn't get this before. So far too, not to be gross, but unlike the Xylitol I haven't so far had any adverse stomach upset when using it. So that's a bonus!
First sugar substitute that doesn’t have a bitter after taste.
If you are starting to cut sugar, and are mixing sweets, definitely buy this!
