Enter this indoor carpet tape product. Even though i knew that it is primarily designed for securing carpets to carpet surfaces below the throw carpet, I gave it a try for securing my disobedient throw carpet to my old worn wooden floor. I used six 3 foot long strips of this tape, each about a foot apart, across the carpet width, that is, running perpendicular to the long axis of the carpet. The tape is holding perfectly. On two of the tape placements, the tape has lifted from the wooden floor for about the first 3-4 inches on one side, but that is only because I failed to adequately clean the old worn wooden floor of all dirt in those locations.
So, I give this product 5 stars for excellent performance in a very demanding application, where the movement of my rolling desk chair is constantly putting great strain on the throw carpet!
I first used it in a traditional application - securing the front door rug to the wood floor it sits on. Even using a grip pad under it, the rug would curl up any time someone opened the door, or slide across the floor if you didn't watch your step. I thought "this should help." And sure enough, it did. I can vacuum on top of this rug and it does not move.
Then I thought, hey, let me stick this on the corners of the rug. We have ugly rental carpet and our solution is to purchase the largest rugs possible, and have them layered on top of the carpet. They are giant, so they usually have no problem staying put, but the corners were getting kicked up from time to time, and now with this, they're secure. This stuff grips to other carpet like you wouldn't believe, but when I did a test to make sure it wouldn't ruin it, it pulled up with a bit of force. But you would have to really, really try to get it up vs. accidentally moving it.
Finally, the ultimate test. The rug underneath my desk. It is a smaller 3x5 rug and with my rolling desk chair, it was getting all sorts of bunched up and twisted. Not anymore! I ran this along the outer perimeter of the rug & pad, and made a big "X" with it across the center and problem solved. No more movement.
Seriously fascinating how strong this tape is. You won't be disappointed in its performance.
I moved into a house with hard wood and our two couches were struggling with slipping and sliding on the new floor. I sought out some options and decided on Intertape 9970 Indoor Carpet Tape. I had tried small rubber feet and those did not work at all. A lot of people like the mesh rubber netting, but that flips up very easy.
Pros; it is simple to use and holds fairly well for carpet and rugs. The double side provides more uses than just for floors.
+ easy to tear
+ holds well under regular traffic
+ a little tape goes a long way
Cons; I don't have any real cons since I was not using it for its intended purpose.
~ If you start trying this on larger furniture pieces you will have mixed results.
Using It
It was pretty simply to apply to our runners and our larger floor rugs. It is double-sided with one side being covered in an easy to peel plastic. This gives you changes to move the rug before finally applying. It should be noted to clear the surface you are sticking it to with soapy water and let dry for best results. Even though I haven't had issues with residue, I would test this tape some where out of view to see how your floors react.
Buying Experience
It arrived right when Amazon said it would.
Final Thoughts
If you have hardwood floors this tape works wonders and holds really well. You are given 36 yards, so with one roll you should be covered.
I tried this tape on a whim after reading good reviews here. This is a thin, paper-based tape - no thicker than masking tape. It has a strong adhesive on both sides, but one that can be removed with a little force and without damaging surfaces. I put in a varying pattern all over the bottom of the rug, installing strips that went both against and with the typical traffic patterns. It has worked like a charm! Because of how thin it is, it doesn't catch or roll on itself with foot traffic. The rug hasn't moved an inch, hasn't bunched, and there are no lumps to be found. This stuff is amazing!
There is also a ton of it on a roll. I had gotten two rolls based on other reviewers saying that they needed to use a lot. I covered probably 50% of the bottom of a 4' x 6' rug, and I still have at least two thirds of a roll left. I know this will eventually become less sticky and I'll need to replace the tape, and there is plenty for me to do that.
Top reviews from other countries
It used it in a fairly minimal form, just placing squares of it at corners or "curling points" of mats to keep them from sliding around vs securing the entire outer surface for more permanent attachment etc. I applied it to multiple surfaces including ceramic tile and hardwood, and confirmed that it held well but could also be removed without issue.
The only negative is that the paper liner is VERY difficult to peel, so anyone who thinks metal foil tape is difficult to work with is in for a world of pain. I use all sort of metal foil tape regularly, both thick and thin mil types, and they generally do not frustrate me at all. None are as difficult to separate as this product, which is likely because the backing is thin and flexible poly vs stiffer foil tapes.
The best application method seems to be applying the tape very thoroughly to the surface of the carpet so that adhesion is pretty solid, twist the carpet at an angle and then repeatedly flick at the corners with your fingernail until it begins to separate. Once you get a corner started, it is easy to remove the liner (as long as it is adhered well to the carpet). It takes a lot of patience to work with, but the results with this product are very satisfying.
Considering how little of this tape you need to actually secure carpets, this $5 roll of tape is a great value!
