The good:
Right out of the package, you could tell the device was solid. It was heavy, sturdy, and even the plastic bowl was higher quality than the previous ones I had purchased.
I am in love with the slicing disc - you can see the difference in thickness of slices. It's great! I can slice incredibly thin or really thick, which is amazing for various dishes and dehydrating! The slices are consistently the same size, no leftover piece thumping around in there after it has sliced the majority of the veggie or fruit. My previous food processors would leave a chunk of food that it would not slice or grate.
The sound. This thing is insanely quiet. I did not think there was such a thing as a quiet food processor but this is it. I was not looking for this feature but it's nice. It DOES make noise, just much quieter than the others I've had. I can continue to listen to the audio book or carry a conversation without yelling while using the machine.
It's fast. I mean, really fast. Not that all food processors are not efficient but this will slice through the food much quicker than the previous ones I've had.
I like the timer. If I need to blend, whisk, or kneed something for a certain amount of time, I can set it. It also tells you how long you've been blending.
I like having the option of a large or small bowl but this is not a unique feature to this machine. They do create a leak proof environment so if you want to make something liquid in the top and then move on to chopping something solid in the bottom, you can do that without any issues.
The bowls are pretty sturdy.
I have not seen gaps that trap food or water that lead to mold/mildew growing. Will update if I find any.
The parts to the chute stay in place without any weird twisting to get parts to lock. I love this as my last one was hard to lock the parts together and the small chute would always fall out and thus broke. The small chute can serve as a small measuring cup as well!
I really like the storage for the blades. My first one did not have this and it was always tricky to find a place to store them that would be safe and not result in finely sliced finger tips.
The variety of discs is also quite nice. The fry blade does thin strips of fries. I have used both of the s blades and they work wonderfully. I have not used the other blades/discs as of yet.
There is a brush included to make clean up easy as the device is not dishwasher friendly.
The Cons:
Size - this is a large device and would not have worked in past apartments where size is a constraint. Be sure to measure before buying! I'm glad I now have a place large enough to store the food processor and attachment box.
I would say the price but I have a feeling long term, this device will pay for itself. I did worry about the price and justifying the cost. However, we use the food processor all the time, hoping this will hold up to years of use.
Washing - not recommended to put in the dishwasher. This isn't a huge problem, I just hate washing dishes by hand when you have a dishwasher available. However, it's very easy to clean and there is a brush included.
There are no other cons as of right now.
Other thoughts:
I might have to buy the dicing add on as this food processor is amazing to use and would love more control over diced veggies.
The most amazing thing about this processor is the ginourmous container which will actually hold 12 cups of liquid. Smoothies for a crowd are no problem with this. The design is completely different than the Cuisinart, there is no gaping hole! The part where you mount the blade it sort of a rotating thing within the container, vs. poking something down through a hole.
So far I/we have sliced celery, jullienned carrots, shredded carrots (fine, for muffins), made a loaf of bread, made pizza dough, sliced cabbage for coleslaw, made "yonanas" (frozen bananas pureed into "ice cream"), and made cranberry orange relish.
For the pizza I used 5 1/2 cups of flour and I suspect this is about the limits of what this will handle - but that made 4 medium (thin) pizzas so that's plenty. I have never made dough before in a food processor so I can't say how it compares to others. It worked fine for me, though!
For chopping (as for the cranberry relish), it did a good job of chopping into tiny uniform bits vs. pulverizing the heck out of everything and liquifying or pureeing it (as my old one did).
With the bananas, this processor did a ridiculously good job - my old one seemed to whir them around and around and around for so long that by the time it came together, it was thawing, so I had to shred them first, then switch to the chopping blade, to get it to work. This made a ton of yonanas very well and very quickly using just the chopping blade.
My husband has made a cream cheese glaze for a cake using the small container and there was some slop over such that the large container needed washed, which seems to be a common problem with nesting processor bowls. Not a huge issue but be aware of it. If you plan to use both bowls, use the outer bowl first since it might get dirty.
I am completely blown away by the design and quality of this item. The food chute is HUGE and has a smaller insert for small/skinny items. The mini insert doubles as a measuring device. I haven't used it as such yet but it is seriously like they sat down and thought, "How many features can we possibly squash into this thing?" Compared to the larger Cuisinarts, the safety mechanism (such that the large pusher is in place so there is no risk of shoving your hand in the processor) is MUCH smoother and easier to work. The most amazing thing about this unit, though, is the storage case that it comes with for ALL the blades. It is HUGE. You won't believe how huge it is. I keep looking at it and thinking it is too good to be true, that in this day and age of shrinkage and declining quality, it's like some crazy throw back to the past when appliances were made with quality and you didn't get nickle and dimed for everything. This processor comes with EVERYTHING you will ever need. It is truly amazing.
I did a camel camel camel search when I bought this and snagged it at the lowest price all year in early december. You can set a watch to be alerted if the price drops. For what I paid, considering it is huge and useful and comes with everything, I think it was a bargain. Even at a higher price - look at what all it comes with, and focus on the features and not just the cost.
I have not yet called for the upgraded slicer attachment and lid. I have only sliced carrots so far and have not had a problem. I do find the fine side is not as SUPER fine as I would like - it was acceptable for muffins, but if you wanted super duper fine parmesan, you might find it a little thicker than you like - but I think that is my only quibble with this machine. Truly, truly amazing otherwise.

Por favor Amazon. Vendan el Kit completo para actualizar este modelo de procesador. Me encantaría comprarlo!!!
Now, why this Breville? It's powerful (really powerful), and their designers gave it a lot of thought. Wide feed tube (with a safety that requires it to be in place before the blade will turn, but with a smaller integrated feed tube that allows for liquids to be poured in while it's running. The adjustable blade allows for great flexibility in cutting (we actually made our own potato chips), a smaller integrated internal bowl for smaller jobs (shallots and garlic), a whisking blade (for whip cream, or as we've done even your own butter). The timers on the front lets you know how long you've been pulsing for, and the other button allows you to start the machine and let it run.
Finally, the entire family of blades comes in a hard plastic storage unit that you can stand on its side or upright. However, even if you leave it on the counter, it keeps the blades clean and covered. Note on the blades. They are sharp. Not just "Oh my, that is sharp", but more like surgical scalpel sharp. Despite great caution with every use, we've had 2 cut finger incidents in the month since we got it, so PLEASE be careful with the blades.
This unit was substantially more than many other food processors, and while I have not tried others, I feel that this unit was good value for money. Heavy duty (heavy being the operative word here), robust bowl, blades, housing, and storage unit. We feel it was certainly worth the money and has changed how (and what) we cook.
For your consideration.
