We got this to play with our almost six-year-old child. We’d played the full version of the game with friends.
Board games are a bit of a challenge with an only child of this age because anything easy enough for her to play is usually pretty dull for an adult. But this one has enough skill and strategy to be interesting to older players while possible for a fairly young child to grasp.
6+ is a reasonable estimate of the minimum age to play, at least with older people involved. Children will need to be able to read the city names and do simple counting. We found our daughter grasped linking together the cities to make routes without too much trouble.
The game is quite well balanced and appropriately paced. While many of the strategic elements of the adult version have been removed for simplicity, there’s still a good mix of skill and luck that should make the game last quite a while. It’s far better in this aspect than, say, Monopoly Junior, which has had virtually every decision-making step removed leaving a game of pure chance.
Our child is eager to play the game with us, and we’re happy to play it with her.
