Not quite where you expected to be? You’re in good company. Now the bestselling author of Own Your Everyday helps you navigate unmet expectations, waiting, and uncertainty with confidence and clarity.

“If you are like me and need practical steps, hard-won wisdom, and a friend to help lead the way into a new season of promise, this redirection resource is what you need.”—Lysa TerKeurst, #1 New York Times bestselling author and president of Proverbs 31 Ministries

Jordan Lee Dooley knows firsthand how frustrating it can be when you
almost achieve a goal, almost reach a dream, and almost get to where you want to be, only to land just short of the finish line or watch it all fall apart at the last minute.

Unmet expectations have a way of making us rethink everything. But perhaps rethinking dreams is not always the worst thing. Why? Because it’s in those moments, when you’re not where you expected to be, that you have a chance to pause and consider what matters most to you as well as redefine what success looks like for
you in a world that’s constantly telling you what you should want or should do.

Believe it or not, it
is possible to cultivate a life you really like—and one where you can succeed—in the tension of the middle, between where you started and where you hoped to be. Discover:

• practical steps to move forward when your plans don’t go according to plan
• how to clarify which goals are right for
you to pursue
• what to do when dreams seem to come true for everyone but you
• the unexpected gains that can arise from unwanted pain
• how to know when it’s time to let go of a dream—and what to do with the space left behind

Life is filled with unmet expectations, disrupted dreams, uncertainty, and in-between seasons. As hard as those experiences may be, they also offer a unique invitation to align your dreams and goals with what matters most. Learn how you can gain greater clarity about what you truly want, why you want it, and how to begin pursuing it.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“We all know what it feels like to have an expectation of what we hoped our life would look like, only to have it veer off onto a different path. In times like these, we need some help keeping our eyes up as we move forward. That’s exactly what Jordan Lee Dooley does for us in Embrace Your Almost. If you are like me and need practical steps, hard-won wisdom, and a friend to help lead the way into a new season of promise, this redirection resource is what you need.”—Lysa TerKeurst, #1 New York Times bestselling author and president of Proverbs 31 Ministries

“Rather than reinforcing the pervasive shoot-for-the-moon rhetoric that our boss babe culture pushes, Jordan is a part of the resistance. Her book
Embrace Your Almost tactically guides us on how to redefine success so that we can faithfully steward the good that God sends our way. This book heralds the message that this generation desperately needs.”—Amanda Pittman, founder of Confident Woman Co.

“Whether we’ve had the wind knocked out of us when a dream fails or we are finally breathing deeply after we release a dream that wasn’t right, Jordan guides us with compassion and clarity to liking—or at least making peace with—our lives long before we reach the celebratory finish lines.
Embrace Your Almost champions a life that is always under construction instead of one only satisfied at a completion that never truly comes. Jordan intimately invites us to join her in the space between disappointment and possibility, heartbreak and hope—whether in our home, motherhood, career, or faith. She reminds us that a life of almosts is one in which we’re endlessly striving and never celebrating the fact that where we are today may in fact be beautiful enough, if only we see it through her lens.”—Hilary Rushford Collyer, host of the You’re Welcome podcast

“Jordan Lee Dooley is a perfect mix of wisdom and work-hard, and this book brings both. For when you don’t understand and when you need a guide,
Embrace Your Almost will walk with you, teach you, and lead you to the confident life you want.”—Annie F. Downs, New York Times bestselling author of That Sounds Fun

Embrace Your Almost is for anyone who finds themself in the awkward season of in-between. Jordan has gifted us with an insightful guide filled with biblical and practical steps that lend future clarity, even as they help us experience contentment when we are not yet quite there.”—Lisa Bevere, New York Times bestselling author

“I’m grateful for the way Jordan shares her honest journey and helps anyone who’s had to wait or adjust their expectations in the season they’re in to redefine success and contentment right where they are.”
—Ruth Chou Simons, Wall Street Journal bestselling author, artist, and founder of gracelaced online

Important read if you feel an unmet expectation in your life and need a boost of "what do I do?"
So glad I made the decision to read this book! I read the e version so I struggle a bit with that/with connecting with a text that's not physical. But Jordan still managed to write in such an honest and authentic way that it helped so much. You can tell her hurts are raw and I'm so proud of how she chose to continue getting this word out there. That she continued pressing on and sharing what she felt God placed on her heart to get out despite her heartache she is still processing and living through. I think this is so important for us to do and Jordan shows her strength and vulnerability and is a great example in doing this. I wouldn't say that this book is super deep. If you are someone who personally has been through a lot of hardships in your life, it might not hit super deep, but it's not about that. It's not about comparing hardships. Where this does hit deep regardless though I believe is exactly what Jordan says about what can we get out of whatever season we're in. Just some of the questions she discusses: What beauty does God want us to see? What are practical steps that are not overwhelming that we can easily start today to begin seeing the beauty and begin loving our lives when that seems like a really far away goal? Also, this wasn't a stated purpose of the book but something I loved. I felt like you could read and feel that she and her husband's marriage grew and there was such pruning and discernment gained in the seasons she's writing about and that was really beautiful to read. I believe this book in Jordan's season of almost will end up being such a beautiful refining and growing season that will help so many. Grateful.

Jordan is an excellent writer and her writing style is much like her speaking style in that it draws me in to listen to what she has to say. While I’m significantly older than she, I still find that she has a great deal of wisdom that can help me as I’m looking toward life transitions. I have two children… One who recently turned 18… And that transition has been difficult.

Her book talks a lot about not wasting seasons of “waiting” and instead, making sure that I am not wasting this season of my life. It’s so easy to feel paralyzed when you are dealing with transitions or a lot of unknowns but she reminds us that no season of life is useless and that we can embrace and live through the waiting no matter what you’re waiting for.

I’m super proud of her for jumping into this topic and believe many people will be encouraged, challenged, and urged to walk through any waiting season with hope, anticipation, and patience.

When I first heard about this book, I was on the verge of entering a season of broken dreams. I didn’t know it then, but I was about to be thrust into the valley of heartbreak and grief.

In that season, I experienced unmet expectations and felt like everyone around me was living the life that I always wanted.

I’ve since found my footing again, and have moved forward with my life. But this book is, and likely always will, be applicable because it makes us feel seen.

This book depicts those broken seasons in such a raw and honest way that I couldn’t help but see myself in every moment.

I struggle to write reviews for nonfiction books because they aren’t focused on characters or plot. But this was a powerful book that really challenged me to think about my life in new ways…to make the most of the in-betweens…and to dare to dream and live and laugh when heartbreak abounds.

I pre-ordered this book the second Jordan announced its existence. Her first book was already a favorite of mine. She has a way of writing that feels like you’re chatting with a wise, but super relatable, cool best friend.

This book blew me out of the water. Her vulnerability, her understanding of what it feels like to be in a season of almost is so relatable and made me feel so much less alone.

I love that this book wasn’t just a “pull yourself up by the bootstraps” kind of book. But it also wasn’t a “wallow in self pity” book. It towed a line of feel your feelings, but do this to feel better and make the most of the challenges you’ve been given.

All of it is delivered through a Biblical perspective, which I deeply appreciated as a Christian woman. Whether you’re in a season of waiting for the right job, spouse, family, business success, or literally anything, this book will help you know you’re not alone and will give you tools to shift your mindset for the positive. Thank you for putting this out into the world, Jordan!

I really enjoyed Embrace Your Almost. I loved the parts where she talks about her garden. One of my favorite lines: “I have also seen the growth that sprouts in the ruins….It’s the kind with roots that go deep — the kind that transforms ambitious women like you and me.” She talked about stewarding our lives well, and how we can cultivate the life right in front of us. Another favorite part: “Dare to believe the truth that when you release something, you free up space for new things (and new dreams) to grow in you and in your life.” All in all, this book was refreshing, smooth to read, relatable, and felt like talking to a friend.
