What's in the box

  • 24-70mm F2.8 PRO FX Canon
  • Product Description

One of the most versatile focal lengths available, Tokina's AT-X 24-70mm f/2.8 PRO FX Lens is a standard wide-angle to portrait-length zoom featuring a bright, constant f/2.8 maximum aperture. Designed for Canon full-frame-format DSLRs, this everyday lens is ideally suited for nearly any genre of photography, including travel, portraiture, landscape, and event shooting. Three aspherical elements pair with three super-low dispersion elements to produce bright, evenly-illuminated imagery with controlled aberrations and distortions, while multi-layer lens coatings help to reduce flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. Well-suited to working in a wide variety of situations, this standard zoom covers an array of perspectives while maintaining consistent illumination for working in challenging lighting. Benefitting the usability, a one-touch focusing clutch permits quick switching between autofocus and manual focus modes, and an internal focusing design maintains the overall length of the lens during use. A Silent-Drive Module AF system suits both stills and video recording, too, by providing quick and quiet performance. Additionally, this lens sees the incorporation of a nine-blade diaphragm, which contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality when employing shallow depth of field shooting techniques. Compatible with Canon full-frame-format DSLRs, this standard zoom can also be used with APS-C-format DSLRs where it will provide a 38.4-112mm equivalent focal length range. Constant f/2.8 maximum aperture provides consistent performance throughout the zoom range and also contributes to greater control over focus position and when working in low-light conditions.

    Perfect all around lens!

    Perfect all around lens!
Purchased this lens primary for "all in one travel lens" to go with EOS RP. Autofocus works flawlessly, fast with really sharp image quality. It's fast enough with adequate zoom as an "all in one" travel lens. The price is also quite competitive comparing to canon, sigma or tamron. One of the downside to me is the weight. However, I did come from a crop sensor camera (Sony A6000 + Sel18200 f/3.5-6.5), so it will take some time to get use to. The focus is a bit noisy, but not "Yongnuo noisy" (YN50 f/1.4 is a great lens for the price though).Overall, I recommend this lens for its sharpness, versatility and price.

This is my second Tokina lens, and I love it. Other than weight, its performance and photo quality is comparable to the Canon 24-70 2.8. I am happy to carry a few extra ounces to save $1000. I have used it on my T5i with great results. It really improved the image quality my little T5i could produce. The auto focus is a little laggy on my crop sensor, but thats the case with all my lenses, Canon or otherwise. The autofocus speed is spot on and fast when mounted to my 5D Mark IV. Great buy. I highly recommend it.

Update 01/15/15: This lens has major auto focusing issues. I Have been testing this lens and adjusting my cameras focus adjustment for the last two weeks to no avail. This could be a defective copy. At the tele end, the focus is accurate about 75% of the time... not great. At the wide end, 40mm and wider it is unusable. It shifts from extreme back focus to extreme front focus all willy nilly and is rarely accurate. I love everything else about the lens, but if I can't use it wide open due to the focusing issue, I have no use for it. Original review below...

Optically, this lens is just what I was hoping for. Like many others, I bought this instead of the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 L II because of price and the reviews have been great. It is extremely sharp, and gorgeous wide open and/or at full zoom. I'm using this lens for portraits and headshots and so far it seems to be perfectly suited to this task. It's not perfect however. I did need to setup this lens with focus adjustments on my Camera, a Canon 6D. -3 wide and -12 tele. One other thing I don't really like is the focus ring when changing from auto focus to manual. It sticks sometimes, like the gear is not meshing properly. I have another Tokina lens, the 16-28 2.8, and it has the same issue, so it seems to be a design flaw and not a defect. It is easy enough to correct, just push the ring back to auto, turn it a little and pull back to manual. Easy, but it's kind of lame on a lens that is otherwise built like a tank and offers such superb optics. Anyway, I almost never change from auto to manual or vice versa, so it's not an issue for me. Overall it's a no brainer for the price and then some.

Optically, a great lens. I have no complaints there. Maybe I just received a bad copy, but the autofocus on this lens is ridiculous. It is unbelievably slow, something like 1.5-2 seconds to obtain focus, and the NOISE! I could never, ever use this at any kind of ceremony. It sounds sort of like someone blowing on a kazoo - a loud, high pitched whine. The zoom ring is very stiff, and along with the heaviness of this lens, it is very difficult for me to use. Sending it back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sehr gutes Zoomobjektiv
Reviewed in Germany on October 10, 2019
