The scent is nice, I prefer this to the amber, tho I prefer amber usually. It doesn't really linger, it's not a cologne, but it's pleasant to shave with. Washes off face and blade easily. Not much more I can think of to say, stuff just works and lasts a good long time.
1) It definitely appears to be overpriced. I'll experiment with some other creams soon, and perhaps some soaps, but they all appear to cost much less than this one. Still, at just under $25 for, what, 6 months of shaving? That saves me money over what I was doing before with the canned stuff.
2) I don't have sensitive skin - the only reason I wanted to try this was to, well, try it! I wanted to do the whole brush thing, and so far I've enjoyed the experience. However, this stuff REALLY makes my skin feel "refreshed" afterwards. I'm guessing that's because there there is less "junk" in it compared to the canned gels and creams.
3) Someone wrote in one of the comments that the Sandalwood scent is too strong. No way. If you use this stuff correctly (a little dab on your brush, work up a lather, apply to face), you can barely smell the Sandalwood. I'd say the scent is perfect. If you rub gobs of this stuff on your skin, maybe it can be too powerful. I haven't tried.
That's it! Why 4 stars and not 5? Well, I'm not BLOWN AWAY with the quality of the foam. That's probably my fault for not yet having dialed in the foam generation process, but that's how it goes. I mean, if it was idiot-proof from the get-go, it would be a 5.
Oh yeah, because these creams don't have a lubricant like the canned stuff, you need a pre-shave oil. I also bought the Art of Shaving Sandalwood pre-shave oil, and I would absolutely recommend that. However, it is also pricey, so I will be making my own from now on (2 parts Castor Oil, 1 part olive oil, a dash of essential oils like sandalwood).
Cons: expensive, but I haven't found a better shave cream
Get a good brush and learn proper technique if you're going to buy this as this is a luxury cream. It's like spa time for men and you're other half will like the scent. This is easily the best sandalwood scent I've tried.

I ran out of Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood shaving cream, and Amazon won't be able to get it to me in less than a couple of weeks! This means I have the chance to try this Sandalwood cream from The Art of Shaving! Can this cream dethrone the court hairdressers?
The short answer is no, but only really in one area. This cream does not have the same type of manly scent. As a matter of fact, this cream has hints of sandalwood in the aroma, but it's oddly masked behind a strange, artificial smell. In terms of price it's a wash, because TOBS is slightly cheaper per unit, but the unit is slightly smaller. Price per ounce is around the same. In terms of lubrication, The Art of Shaving offering is clearly superior, probably because the ingredients are more "high tech", where the TOBS cream is made the same way it has been for 100 years. The Art of Shaving cream lathers more easily and with less water than TOBS', making judging the amount needed in your bowl or mug easier. This cream makes your razor glide easily over your face, removing every fleck of stubble, and though I am a fast shaver and known to nick myself more often than not, this cream left no blood on my razor.
Some people complain that the scent of the TOBS cream is overwhelmingly powerful. If you're one of those people, buy this cream, it's technically superior but has a less powerful scent (that also doesn't represent sandalwood as well as TOBS' does, but whatever), and don't get me wrong, it still smells nice, but it's not the sandalwood scent most people are after.
If you love the strong, traditional scent of sandalwood though, Taylor of Old Bond Street is the way to go. Having just checked, I see that now TOBS sandalwood is back in stock here, and while I feel the experience of trying this cream was worthwhile, I wish I hadn't just bought nearly a year's supply of it, and waited until today when I could order the TOBS with Prime shipping. Oh well, now you have my insight on the matter, I hope it helps you decide!
