Simi Chopra is on a bad-luck streak. She’s lost yet another job, her student loan debt won’t stop growing, her basement apartment is a certifiable flood zone, and now her best friend has been accused of stealing a multimillion-dollar diamond necklace. To put it lightly, she’s desperate for a break—that’s right when Jack waltzes out of the bushes and into her life.

Jack is just as charming as he is mysterious. When he offers to help her find the missing necklace and steal it back, Simi jumps at the chance to clear her friend’s name and collect the substantial reward. But every good heist needs a crew. All she needs to do is transform a ragtag group of strangers into an elite heist crew, infiltrate a high-society wedding and steal the necklace from a dangerous criminal before the happy couple say "I do." Meanwhile the bride is keeping secrets, a detective with a slow-burn smile keeps showing up at her door, and the ultimate robbery might not be the wedding con, but the way Jack is stealing her heart.

"Dripping with banter, this action-packed and hilarious romp will keep you at the edge of your seat. Simi and Jack’s sizzling chemistry leaps off the page, and their hard won HEA feels so satisfying. You don’t want to miss this brilliantly crafted heist story!"

"The next time someone asks for a rip-roaring action rom-com, I'm pointing (read: shoving) them to Sara Desai's
To Have and to Heist. Desai strikes the perfect balance of high-stakes plot and relatable main characters. The zany and irreverent crew are peak millennial chaos and I am so here for it! The crew's skillsets are particularly interesting, especially our action man's endearing love of horticulture. From the very first page I was swept away faster than a getaway driver. With breakneck pacing, antics that don't let up, and a spunky heroine that just won't quit, Desai's To Have and to Heist will easily steal away your afternoon."—Lillie Vale, author of The Decoy Girlfriend and The Shaadi Set-Up

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days will enjoy this South-Asian romantic comedy about a bet between two enemies with lots of chemistry. Indian culture plays a key role in the story, from the mentions of dishes to apparel. Between these cultural glimpses and the sparks between the couple, everything about this book is vibrant.”—The Daily Star

"Desai...fills the pages with wry observations...and allows her heroine some steamy romance with a thief who's "gorgeous but in a devilish way." You can practically start casting the movie already."—

Fun Rom-Com with Mystery & Flair

Fun Rom-Com with Mystery & Flair
To exonerate her best friend, Simi must mastermind a jewelry heist during the wedding of the season, but not without the help of her “wedding crew”. I absolutely adored this book. ALL of the characters were hilarious and charming.Jack “the mastermind”🕶️Simi “the planner” 📓Chloe “the hacker” 💻Gage “the muscle” 💪🏽Anil “the techi” 🕹️Emma “the speed”, 🚘Cristian “the charm” 🎩 Rose “the Whit”. 👵🏽Although Simi and Jack are “technically” the main characters and love interest i feel like there really wasn’t a main character. Each character played a large part of this book and Heist. It was full of banter, flirting/romance , thrill and mystery. I found myself on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen with some unexpected twist. This was a single POV from Simi till the end were there were two chapters from jacks POV. I do wish Jack had more of a a part in the book. You only got bits and pieces of their romance since the main point of this book was the heist. Despite that this book was an equal mix of Rom-Com and mystery. I very much enjoyed this read and highly recommend.

Book club pick

As soon as I saw this book I knew I would be reading it, and was excited to choose this one as my book club pick. This one had my interest right away; I am a sucker for side characters and right away you could just see how much Simi truly loved and treasured her relationship with her best friend, her daughter and her elderly friend Rose. I also loved the rest of the "crew". Honestly for me the side characters made this one great for me. I wish I could say that I loved the relationship between Simi and Jack, but I just did not. I personally was not a fan of Jack. I wanted to love him, and I would start to see that maybe he wasn't so bad then bam, he got worse. I will say that this is one book where I was rooting for the MMC to be someone else. I thought the storyline was fun, and loved the antics of the amateur heist crew, and I am really looking forward to the next book in the series.

The sheer chaos, the insanity, the hamster wheel it was to read this book. I AM EXHAUSTED! I imagine this is what the author intended, being in the point of view of a person who probably has ADHD, but it was very hard to keep up with and I had to take breaks.

This excels better as a heist story, than it does as a romance. I actually didn’t really care at all about the main love interest. The hijinks and characters were more interesting even though they were never fully developed or delved into enough for my liking. Rose, the sex-crazed octogenarian, was probably my favorite character and her little bits of dialogue and contributions were the best part of the book in my opinion.

This book feels like if Ocean’s 11 and Arsenic & Old Lace had a baby. The characters were amazing and had me laughing out loud on several occasions! I love the way Sara Desai writes characters that are both absurd and utterly relatable. I can’t wait to see these characters again in their next adventure!

This was such a good time!! I love a heist! There was so much going on, it was so fast paced - it was a little hard to keep up sometimes but in a good way?! I loved all of the cast! It was exactly what a heist needs - a little bit of something from everyone!

I loved Simi with my whole heart. Her and Chloe’s friendship made my heart so happy! They were willing to go to the literal ends of the earth for each other 🥹

I also LOVED Jack. I want to know literally everything about him. I’m hoping in the next books we’ll get an even deeper look into him! I did like that the relationship between Simi and Jack wasn’t just the regular ‘together-conflict-together again’ set up? Because she didn’t really know him, and while he was being truthful about a lot of things, he very much had his own thing happening. I also LOVED that she was so vulnerable with him.

I loved the South Asian rep! I loved that Simi was always being watched by her aunties and that she was able to call to call them during the wedding planning and they were able to help her pull off the seemingly impossible! Simi wasn’t the oldest but she was the only daughter, and her brothers very much got most of the attention growing up and she is still reeling from her childhood because nothing was ever really resolved. I did love that her and her dad got to have an honest conversation about her feelings.

I am VERY excited that there’s going to be another book with this group again. I cannot wait to see Simi and Jack again. AND Chloe and Gage!!! I LOVE them!

After having read The Dating Plan by Sara Desai, I fell in love with her stories. So when I saw that she had a great RomCom with a heavy emphasis on the Com, I decided to check it out. However, as I made my way through the book I quickly realized that it wasn't really my style.

Though this book is heavily marketed as a Romance, I felt as though Romance took a seat not in the back seat, but in the trunk. There was louds of humor, mystery and personal growth, but romance seemed to be almost the very last thing talked about.

And though not having romance does not make me dislike a book, it does ruin my chances of enjoying a book when it is heavily marketed as a romance and then end up not really being one. Plus I didn't really like Simi and Jack's dynamic. Something about them and their relationship really just didn't feel right.

As I read more and more into their story I felt as though they lacked the compatibility to be a couple, that being said it's not to say they may not be great as friends. I simply did not think they were good with each other.

Overall, I gave this book a 3/5 stars, it was not a bad book. I just simply did not enjoy it in the sense that I though I would, but regardless it was a great and fun story to escape into for a couple of hours!

4.5 stars. This book was hilarious. I was literally laughing uncontrollably at some points!
The perfect heist with tons of action and hilarious banter. All the characters were chaotic and cooky in the best possible way. Fast paced and kept me engaged the entire time.
I read this in audio format and the narrator did an INCREDIBLE job!! With an ensemble cast, it's important to be able to easily distinguish who is talking. Each character had such a distinct voice. This was like watching a comedy movie.
I do think the marketing was a bit off for this book. I wouldn't define this as a romance since it was such a small part. I think this leaves people disappointed when they go into it looking for a romance.
