Excelente filtro para camping o para tener en casa en caso de emergencia. Mucho mas practico que el Mini porque requiere limpiarse menos seguido y se tapa mucho menos al no ser de cerámica. Excelente calidad como todos los productos Suizos. Recomendado 100%.

I originally had purchased a Sawyer squeeze filter but after seeing a buddy of mine use this on a backpacking trip I just had to have one. Before buying I compared this filter to all the other filters on the market and based on reviews and previous experience, went with the Katadyn Hiker Pro.

This filter is small, light, and it gets the job done! Pumping enough enough water for 6-8 people at a time is a breeze and only take about 5-10 minutes depending on size and number of bottles. Not only is this filter fast but it provides great tasting water.

The intake hose has a pre-filter screen on the end to eliminate larger particles before they get to the main carbon filter but I would suggest adding a coffee filter over top of the intake hose to extend the life of the filter if you plan on filtering some especially nasty water. Make sure to keep the out take hose stored in its clean hose bags to avoid cross contamination with the intake hose.

A few things to look out for:

When ever you first purchase this and begin to filter water through it, you will see lots of little black specs in the water. That is the carbon from the filter and will eventually go away after use.

Generally when this unit becomes hard to pump, it is a sign that the filter needs to be replaced. Before purchasing a replacement filter that runs ~$45, check and see if the o-ring simply needs lubed.

Don't forget to clean it out and let dry between outings.

This filter does not remove viruses so if viruses are a concern for you, wither purchase a different (more expensive) filter or combine this filter with other preventative methods such as iodine tablets or boiling your water.

Over all this is a great little filter. Weighing in at 11 ounces, this is one of the lightest pump filters on the market and well worth the price and convenience it offers.

Easy way to keep your water supply filled.

Small and compact, but big on features. Allowed us to pack in less water than usual after confirming water sources along the way. Easily refilled and filled additional containers at each camp pretty quickly for the size of unit.

One thing: With a Camelback Antidote 100 oz, didn't see an easy way to refill it from the mouthpiece. The Hiker Pro comes with a bunch of connectors, (the Nalgene one works perfectly by the way!), but the CB hose just didn't seem to have an easy way to do it without disconnecting the mouthpiece. (Probably does have an easy way to do it, I just didn't have the patience to figure it out - guy thing.)
So I just stuck the Nalgene adapter in the main filler area and did it that way. Not difficult and worked just fine. I could have just put the output hose directly in too, but I had just filled the bottle and did it this way. Again, guy thing; why spend the time pulling the Nalgene connector off? :-)

Probably don't need to, but we always drop in tablets even after filtering, just for overkill.

The instructions are easy and because the system is very well laid out, you probably won't need them. Easy to prep at home to get the dust out prior to first use.
Highly recommend bleach and sun cleaning when you get home to keep things fresh and clean for next time. I put a little Vaseline around the O-ring and threads for extra protection and safe storage.

Filter appears to be well made, durable and set up to last a long time - especially if you're not filtering stagnant, nasty water. But if you are, this system looks like it will take care of it and keep it clean. Haven't had to put to the test yet, but after the first few uses in running streams, I have confidence that this is a great system for all kinds of missions.

Just keep the input and output hoses and parts separated to avoid contamination!

Happy hydrating - this is a solid system.

I have had the older style white Katadyn Hiker Pro for about 9 years. It has worked perfectly and provided great water every time we have used it.

We were preparing to go on a 4 day river hike excursion and wanted to back up my old faithful with a new filter in case it failed in the back country. Bought this one here on Amazon and passed it to my son to have with his gear. We pumped water multiple times a day for food and water bottles. He used this one to pump water for two people, I used old faithful to pump water for me and my wife. Both performed reliably and gave us good water. I passed at least one other person on the trail that was also using the Katadyn Hiker Pro filter and he loved his too.

I see some negative reviews here and elsewhere, some of which I think is because these filters are not being used correctly.

Here is how we use them, maybe this will help if you are new to using these type filters:
We always cover the pre-filter with a coffee filter twisted around the hose at the top of the pre-filter and fastened with a wire twisty (like comes on a bread wrapper). We also position the float so the pre-filter is about 4" - 6" under the water and fasten the float in place with a twisty on top and bottom. I look for a deeper pool preferably below fast moving water that is tumbling over rocks, and make sure the pre-filter does not get in silt if I have that luxury. You must pump the handle at a steady pace, not too fast or it will loose compression and stop pumping. It pumps water reasonably fast.

I keep a ziploc bag marked "Dirty Hose" and roll the intake hose up and zip it in that bag to help keep contamination off of the clean hose. I take another larger ziploc labeled "Pump" and zip the pump with clean hose attached to it to further help with contamination containment efforts.

I have had to pump in very shallow, small water holes and in water that had lots of leafy, trashy stuff in it. I try to keep the pre-filter off the bottom if at all possible. My wife goes with me to collect water sometimes and she manages the pre-filter hose which is a big help. There are times when you cannot avoid sand and silt. I change the coffee filter after every couple of uses if the water has a lot of leafy, dirty particles in it.

Also, this set has fast connector fittings so you can cut a Camelbak bladder's (or similar brand's) drink hose and add a fast connect to it. Then in the field, you just disconnect the mouth piece, connect the Katadyn outlet hose and start pumping. Even though I have had the fittings for years, I just put them on at the urging of my son which he also did. This worked better and smoother than I could have imagined and now I want more fittings to put on all of our water bladders.

Bottom line: this is a great filter, my opinion is that it is not fragile as some have suggested but robust and reliable. I would (and did) buy again.

Functional and portable, but could use some design tweaks. I used this model while backpacking on Isle Royale and through Central Florida. The plastic construction feels a bit cheap at first, but it stands up well to transportation and regular use. It's very easy to (dis)assemble and clean.

As another review mentioned before, the plastic bag for the intake hose is not well constructed; the zipper seal is weak, and I ended up using Ziploc bags instead. The pump handle also does not lie flat with the outlet tube connected. Overall it's a nice filter, but with some minor design changes, it could be a lot better.
