Firefly (Speakeasy) Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 141 ratings

It’s my last night in New York. And the woman of my dreams is three feet away, expertly twirling a bottle of vodka behind the bar and making the perfect pour. I’ve never seen anyone as beautiful as Melody, with her enigmatic eyes and a gorgeous smile. All I have to do is introduce myself. And then...

I choke. And my chance for something--anything--with her is gone.

Months later, I think I’m dreaming when I see her doing bartender tricks here in Vermont. Now all I can think about is having those long, beautiful, fingers performing their magic on my body.

But I’m pretty sure she’s hiding something. It’s painfully obvious she’s keeping me at arm’s length just when I need to hold her close. She brings out my protective instincts, but I’ve got problems of my own. If I’m not careful, I’ll destroy everything I’m trying to build.

Losing her again might break me this time, because now I can’t imagine life without the light of my Firefly.

This is a beautifully written story about Melody a talented bartender who suffers the pain of absentee and emotionally abusive parents. She meets Trevor one night in the bar where she works, there is an attraction, but as he is moving to Vermont he does not stick around. Melody is forced to run and meets Trevor again at the bar Speakeasy that she is now working at in Vermont. Mel tries to keep Trevor who wants to buy into an electrician franchise at a distance as she does not want the secrets she is hiding to bring harm to him too. This is an amazing romance with a lot of thrilling drama and family issues that keep Trevor from reaching his goals. I love how this amazing story captivates you right from the beginning and when danger finds Mel, how she keeps her head and is able to handle it. I also loved how the supporting characters help Trevor in his quest to get Mel. I highly recommend this fantastic story.

I really enjoyed Melody and Trevor’s story and I was rooting for them the whole book. They first meet in a bar and New York before Trevor goes home and Melody leaves because of her home situation. They both end up in the same city in Vermont. My heart broke for these two and all of the family issues they had to deal with. I love how Melody stands up for herself and love that they found their happy ending after Avery rocky road.

Wesleigh Siobhan and Mason Lloyd narrated this book, Wesleigh did amazing at showcasing Melody vulnerability and insecurities. Mason is new to me and I loved how he brought he brought Trevor to life. I enjoyed the story and the narration.

A couple years ago I gave this author a shot and nothing really work for me. However, I’m such a fan of The World of the True North that I decided to check it out. It was just okay and was left feeling “meh”, which is sad because it has amazing potential. I just expected better for something written in this universe. Trevor was trying to be an alpha and a cinnamon roll hero and it was giving me a minor case of whiplash and his persistence to have Melody is borderline toxic at times. Mel was built some serious walls for good reasons, so I expected the slow burn, but sometimes the chemistry just wasn’t there for me.

I love Sarina Bowen’s True North world but I had not read this author yet, I’m so happy I tried her out! I loved this book!
Melody is a prickly and stubborn New Yorker, but because we see from her POV what her family life’s been like, we understand her motivations and are more forgiving of her hard edges. Trevor is dealing with his own family drama, but when he witnesses her bar flare skills he can’t stay away, even though he knows he’s headed back to Vermont soon. Melody and Trevor share one beautiful moment before he takes off, leaving them both reeling and off balance. The circumstances that soon find Melody working at Trevor’s hometown bar have shocking and lasting repercussions that turn this sweet romance into a thrilling, suspenseful book! Loved every minute!

A pretty good book. I didn’t like the use of “woman” as another reviewer said, but I still wanted to give this book a chance. The depth of emotions re their personal problems was excellent, but the connection/emotions between the characters wasn’t as well done. I still think readers should give this book a chance since the overall plot was a good one. I enjoyed revisiting the Vermont town.

A flashy, crowd-pleasing bartender relocating from New York and the local who hasn't forgotten their brief encounter. It wasn't even a sex-ay encounter. Just an encounter at the bar Melody worked at. Trevor liked her, but didn't want to start something when he was on the verge of moving back to Vermont so they became a missed connection.

Except circumstances have Melody unexpectedly ending up at Speakeasy and (potentially) that missed connection can turn into something more substantial.

On Melody's end, she might possibly have a few trust issues. Given her mother's stellar parenting skills, that's not surprising. Regardless of the reason why, Melody's guarded. Trevor's disappearance in New York after she opened up to him, has her a little wary of the big guy when he shows up. But Trevor is patient and dogged and eventually these two are able to meet halfway. I mean, it takes time and there's baggage to deal with, but they get there.

A city gal in the country, a small-town guy who likes what he sees, a little danger, family dynamics of the dysfunctional variety, friends, steam, and flash. I must say, I'm enjoying my time in Colebury very much.

I've worked way my way through the series of the Speakeasy Taproom stories and this one by far has been my least favorite to date. The overall plot is "ok" but the whole story itself is lackluster. There is zero chemistry between to the two main characters. Zero. Not even a spark. The term 'woman' is used far too much as well. "Listen, woman" and "don't ever do that again, woman." My goodness. In what world is that endearing? I know that these are meant to have drama and over the top gestures, etc, but this one missed all the marks for this reader. I've enjoyed the Speakeasy Taproom stories up until now. I hope the next one redeems the fun and quirkiness in them.
