This is a good tool if you know where you are. I purchased to align a weather station north. Worked great mer the need. As a person who has done land nav I can say that if actually disoriented where I needed to shoot a reverse asmeth....this will not give me confidence/accuracy necessary. the Needle does not always point north or can stick. For general location; say the hiking trail splits, Camping, learn with...sure. Not topo map find your way home kinda compass. Then, it's 10 bucks. Your not buying it for land nav. If so spend the 60-100$.

I ordered 4 of these compasses to teach basic orienteering to a youth group. 3 of the 4 worked perfectly. One was a little wonky and pointed about 10 to 30 degrees off unless you tapped it to free the needle. This made it so that 3 of the groups completed the course easily but one group was lost wondering around the park trying to find the first way point. In the end that group required me to help point them in the right direction at each turn. Order a few extra would be my advice if you are ordering these. Not a dealbreaker and could have just been damaged in shipping if it was placed too close to a magnetic source.
