  • Great for Pets on Prescription Diets: Holds 13.5 fl. oz, wet or dry pet food. The lid closes to form a seal with the neoprene lip, helping to retain moisture and to keep food fresher longer.

  • Do you have a houseful of pets? Does one cat steal the other’s cat food? Does your dog steal the cat’s food? Stressful Feeding times? The Microchip Pet Feeder makes feeding times so much easier! It uses the pet’s Microchip ID or by wearing a lightweight RFID collar tag to communicate with the feeder to open for that specific pet. All feeders come standard with one tag (unit stores 32 ID’s); additional collar tags can be purchased separately if necessary. Ideally one feeder per pet.

Requires effort and creativity for extra greedy cats
2 year update: we've had to replace 2 of thesedue to them breaking down (maybe from the savannah constantly messing with them and the other cats puking on the feeders which then gets to the motor), and contact surefeed customer service to get new lids because the savannah managed to break them. Their customer service was excellent though. We have a new setup that should finally stop the stealing. we used an ikea kallax with doors, cut cat sized holes in the doors and put child locks on. Unfortunately it's hard to find this version of the feeder anymore and we had to get the newer model (which could be cool but not necessary for us and more expensive). But still no other product on the market that we have found to do what this one does, so I'd still recommend it. Updated pics with new setup.3 month update: we've had to change the batteries on a few of the feeders already but no big deal. One of the cats tends to vomit sometimes which on occasion has gotten inside the device, which required full on dismantling and cleaning, but it still works. We've had to modify the shelf a few times because the savannah can still steal their food. We're still working on that but it has improved. We have to make it so only one cat can fit on the shelf, but the feeder is so wide it's hard to do that. Adding updated picture.---‐------------Some background: we have 4 large (~15lb) male cats, one of them is a savannah. The savannah along with one of the others both have urinary issues, but the others do not. We decided to try switching them all to all wet food as it should help alleviate the urinary problems, but this caused some major hassles at feeding time. The savannah had his own "feeding tote" (clear plastic storage container big enough for him to stand in we drilled holes in the lid), because he is super greedy, and just a plain jerk to the other cats and steals all their food. Feeding would take 20-30 minutes since one cat in particular is a slow eater, and we were feeding them 3x a day. Both my partner and I work full time and needed a solution to reduce the amount of time feeding and the hassles involved. So i did some searching and found that this feeder is the only product out there that at least claims to do what we need it to do, which is keep mainly the jerk cat out of everyone else's food (he's gotten pretty fat), but we needed something that works with wet food.Pros:- super easy programming and use- only opens for the programmed cat- seals the food and keeps it fresh longer- cats can graze all day- battery powered, easy portabilityIt's not great, definitely could use some improvements but so far it's working.Cons:- No option to plug in, only takes C batteries- too shallow, it gets really messy and requires cleaning with every change of the bowl, at least for wet food (one of my cats is an especially messy eater but the others don't make as big of a mess. Still needs cleaning often)- non dishwasher safe bowls included, and theyre plastic. If i can't run it through the dishwasher it's too much work, but we bought extra stainless bowls which are dishwasher safe.- extras/accessories are expensive. Really, almost 40 dollars for two stainless bowls, 30 for a pretty much required back cover, it's ridiculous. Those things should be included.- no ice packs or space for them to keep wet food fresher longer, but the seal still helps- if your cat is extremely clever and determined (like our savannah), you will need to get creative and find ways to keep them out. The back cover wasn't enough, he would just push himself in next to the other cat while they're eating and start eating their food. When this happens, the feeder will not close, so it's pretty useless without some extra effort.Another thing to note, we purchased only one feeder at first to test the waters. The cat we used it for got scared of it, so I did use the training mode on it. It worked like a charm and now he has no problems. He doesn't understand now that there are more of them that only one opens for him. They all still sit in front of the wrong feeders and wonder why they won't open, but they're slowly starting to get it. For some reason they never want to eat out of their own bowl but want to take the others'.We made a custom shelf set up for our situation, which cost about 100 dollars in materials but we couldn't find anything more affordable that would suit our needs. (We also have 2 dogs who are ravenous for the cat food. One of them could literally climb to the top of a 6 foot cat tree to steal their uneaten food, another reason we needed something like this feeder). The important thing is to keep another cat from getting to the food before the lid can close. Once the lid closes it won't open for the wrong cat, but there is plenty of room for 2 cats to stick their head in at the same time and keep the lid from closing on them.Anyway, photos included of our custom solution..first photo is comparing/showing how messy one of the cats is compared to the not so messy eaters. we've only had these for a few weeks but so far it seems to be working. You can see the savannah is still trying to get to the other cat's food (even though he has his own full bowl and the food is exactly the same. Jerk.) But so far this has kept him from being able to get his head in fast enough. We also put the closing speed on the faster setting, that helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend. Worth the money!
Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2021
I have been using these for years--literally, about 4 years now-- and they still work great! I had an elderly cat on prescription food, and in a multi-cat household, it was impossible to keep them all eating what they were supposed to. I initially tried the IR tag pet feeder from Chewy.com because they are WAY cheaper, but you get what you pay for, folks.

I have used these both with my pet's subcutaneous microchip and with the collar tag microchips, both work great (as long as their subcu microchip is near one of their front shoulders). Easy to set up, the batteries (4 x Cs) actually last a very long time even with frequent use; in my experience, the better part of a year.

I love that each one comes with collar microchips (so you don't need to buy a separate set, like I first thought), and with two different types of bowl. The bowls simply lift out and are easy to clean. I have even heated wet cat food up in the microwave in them with no issues.

One thing to make note of; the clear sliding lid can be broken into by the cats if you don't make sure to slide the locking switch into the "locked" position after you've reassembled after cleaning. I did not discover this fact until I was about fed up with my cats breaking into each others' bowls (which still took them quite a while to figure out). Now that I know, they have not been able to break in.

The main con is that the overall feeder can be a pain to clean because of the hinge and various nooks and crannies, but this is in no way a dealbreaker, and is in fact a very minor complaint of mine. The gray rubber mats on the front of the feeder are removeable for easy cleaning.

The feeders are a bit bulky I suppose (see cat in picture for scale), but I don't mind this. They have a sleek design that looks very modern and aesthetically pleasing. My cats took to them almost immediately, with little to no introductory training needed.

No other automatic pet feeder on the market even comes close to these, and hasn't for years. I recommend these to all my friends that have cats on prescription foods, or cats that fight over food or are picky eaters. Worth the money!

4.0 out of 5 stars Worked well before starting to give issues, got defective product.
Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2018
It worked good enough initially but in a few days it started giving issues so I had to return it.
My story: I have one young Maine coon-mix, hyperactive cat which is a grazer and doesn't eat much at one time and another senior, alpha kitty which can eat a buffalo and still be hungry. I give them canned food (1/2 of 3oz can each) for both breakfast and dinner and used to leave them 1/4 cup high-quality dry food in separate bowls for them to munch through the day while I am gone for work. However my senior kitty (she is a bully) would eat most of the food and started getting really fat. So I got this for the younger grazer so that he can munch to his will all day.
Pros: 1) it can read both microchip and RFID chip which it comes with.
2) it comes with two bowls and since it becomes airtight, one can leave canned food in it instead of dry food if you need to.
3) it can hold 2 cups of dry food which can last for at least 2-4 days depending on if you supplement with wet food.
4) you can lock out your other cat so it works great for households with multiple cats or dogs where you need to feed one or more cat more or a prescription diet.
5) It has a learning program in it to use to train your cat. My cat learnt to eat from it very easily, almost in the first attempt. But then my cats are freakishly smart sometimes so I don't know if other cats will learn it this fast or not.

Cons:
1) it doesn't have a hood of any kind which is stupid as the other cat learnt to eat from the other side again at the first attempt. (Told you my cats are freakishly smart). I solved this by putting it between stuff so that the only way to go near it is the front, like the pic I shared (I am smart too.. Haha).
2) Doesn't hold enough food if you need to leave your cats for a long weekend trip. Not really a huge problem but I don't know why this thing doesn't come with a food storage attached, as that would solve the open backside thing too.
3) The cat which is allowed to eat can eat too much if he's in the mood. Sometimes he will eat so much that he won't eat the wet food anymore.

Specific problems I had with my unit:
1) I think my product was defective or something because it didn't recognize my younger cat's microchip. However, it did recognize my fat cat's microchip so I didn't understand what the issue was. Also, it recognized the RFID chip so I used it for my younger, grazer cat.
2) the unit started malfunctioning a bit within a few days and would not open on time sometimes and my cat would sit in front of it confused.
It's so expensive that I didn't want to risk it anymore so I returned it.
I ended up buying another RFID feeder called Wireless Whiskers (I bought a used one from eBay so it was much cheaper than the original price). It had all the pros except that I can't use it with wet food but it also solved all the cons as both cats can use it and I can allot a time for either of them and no one eats too much. And it's working great for the last 3 months.
