Too much death and abuse

Don't be misled by the photo of the happy Kelpie on the cover. This book really lays bare the reality of the frequent abuse and misuse of working dogs in country Australia. From the man who declined veterinary surgery for his previous brilliant working dog which lost the use of its back legs in an accident and dragged itself around by its front paws for the rest of its life (written as if that was an admirable thing), to the man who occasionally selected dogs from his pack and shot them (culminating in him shooting the lot and then himself). The stories were frequently barely disguised true stories of careless neglect and abuse. Yes, I know that this is what life in the bush is all about but this city slicker would rather not know and seeks real entertainment in other books. Read 1/4 of the book and couldn't stomach more.
