Important note on RJ45 connectors!

Important note on RJ45 connectors!
I bought this and assumed it was dead on arrival, as I was unable to power up my Raspberry Pi 4B even though I know my PoE switch is working (it is powering some Unifi APs right now), and I assumed my RJ45 cables were working too (again, powering APs). When I used the same switch/same cables, no luck.I reached out to UCTRONICS support, who indicated any RJ45 cables with "aluminum foil shielding" are not recommended. These type of RJ45 cables seem to be fairly popular (a quick search on Amazon shows most premade cables are in fact shielded like this, all of mine included). Since I don't currently have any non-shielded cables, I was able to sort of snip some of the foil from the connection end going into the Raspberry Pi (pictures attached to show what I did). This worked! I assume the foil somehow shorts the power circuit going into the Raspberry Pi or something like that, not too sure. To me this feels like a shortcoming in the design of the Raspberry Pi, but I am not taking any stars off of the PoE Hat as I don't feel it is to blame.I have a feeling this could affect many others (and mistakenly think their PoE Hat is DOA) - so double check which RJ45 cable you are using!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but serious flaws!
Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2021
So, the good. It fit very nicely to allow for a compact case with the HDMI capture card that can be used for an IP KVM. The downside is... it burns out the pie and poe port when used. I thought I had shorted out the first one, burned out an 8Gb Pie as well as my PoE swith in addition to a 4Gb pie before I figured this out.

So, great form factor. Very easy to install. Nice and compact. The pins make it very useful. The only down side is.... I can't use it! It doesn't work with the hdmi capture card. I'm not sure why.

Thankfully Amazon customer service has said they would make it right. If you are using your pi without accessories this should be good.

I can't tell you if this was this specific unit I got, or if they are all like this. I can tell you I'm frustrated at this situation and I'm going back to the external dongle type PoE which worked great -- if a bit ugly.

This is day 1 so if this changes I will update the review but So far this POE hat has worked great with my Unifi Dream Router. Easy installation even though I had to make a few modifications to my existing case (move the fan outside the enclosure and clip a few layers to be able to fit the added board.).

If you have a 3b prior to 2016 model the 4 pin required for Poe Support will be missing you will instead require a Poe Injector splitter.

Works fine first try on raspi 4.
Most case will need minor adjustment to work ( mine had to remove a plastic layer and put fan on the outside for example )
